Did anyone else hear the TV announcer say this was Appalachian's first year in Division I?

It used to be a sticking point for us, but lets face it. It is our first year in Division I. Last year we had 63 scholarships. This year we are building toward 85.

Yep I agree, we are Div 1 for a while, and at a new level now of the division. Need to spend one of these scholarships on a kicker IMO.

It sure didn't look like a game between division 1 teams.

Have a kicker committed for this class. Hope we keep him.

There are a few really bad Sun Belt teams who I imagine would not win the SoCon either. I don't think Georgia State and Idaho are any good at all. New Mexico State is pretty bad as well.

That announcer was none other than former NC State QB and State, Kansas State, Mizzou, FSU and Oklahoma assistant coach (among others) and former Marshall & Georgia head coach Jim Donnan. He knows very well who and what we were and what we are now. He should, because he got passed over for the head coaching position at Appalachian not once--but twice. Once by Jim Jones and once by Jim Garner. While his Hall of Fame coaching career was nothing to sneeze at, his career path took a couple of turns that he still blames on ASU. He holds no warm, cozy memories or thoughts about us.

He managed to get in a half-dozen digs last night. It would have been a lot worse, but for his friendship with the Lamb family. He had to play it easy and careful.

He hasn't gotten over his #1 ranked Marshall team losing in Boone on a dark and rainy October 22, 1994. Bless his heart.
