Re: App Mich on the ESPN front page
The block was amazing but, the game was a TOTAL TEAM EFFORT! I understand Corey's standing by Coach Moore; he was a great mentor to many, including our current Head Coach. However, Corey's comments are ill timed and not representative of the team effort that is the REAL reason we upset Michigan. I doubt his mentor, Coach Moore, would want to take that win away from the TEAM for any reason.
I look forward to the day Coach Moore is welcomed back to the App State family and is celebrated as he so richly deserves. I know that day is coming and if I don't see Corey Lynch until then, I'm fine. I motion we focus and marvel at the TEAM effort, not just the efforts of a few individuals.
It's GREAT to be a MOUNTAINEER!!!!

Come on man... JM would not have gotten fired earlier after winning 3 straight titles, and frankly the suggestion that that one play determined whether Lynch and Jackson would get into the NFL is silly.

Re: App Mich on the ESPN front page
I agree with Rek on this. That game opened many peoples eyes to the talent we have (had) on the team. If we lose that game in the final moments the game gets a cursory mention and maybe Dexters long TD gets shown on SC. Maybe. The line between making it and not in the NFL is razor thin. That exposure and the repetition of it could easily be what opened the door for scouts giving them a second look. Especially from a "small" school.EastHallApp wrote:Rekdiver wrote:Corey made a huge mistake making that statement. I think we all understand his feelings about Jerry. This point does not get mentioned enough. JM never wanted to coach if we moved up and we were going to. Even if everything had been perfect up to that point we had to part ways.BUTCH1991 wrote:I don't think it would have mattered if he didn't block the kick. Our goal was to move up to FBS whether we won the Michigan game or not. Coach Moore said he didn't want to coach at that level again. His contract would not have been renewed either way. I hate that Coach Moore's departure wasn't harmonious, but it would have happened with or without the blocked kick.

Absolutely. What a petty thing to say. If you don't want to come back, good riddance. One question I would ask Mr. Self Righteous, where would you be without Appalachian State? Unbelievable!

Re: App Mich on the ESPN front page
I'm still glad Corey made the touchdown saving tackle at Eastern Kentucky in 2005 on the one yard line as time expired. If he doesn't, we go into the half down by a good bit, perhaps lose that game, the magic never happens, and Coach Moore is gone at the end of that season. I am sure there are some in the no Moore camp that want that play back.

I still love Nic Cardwell's reaction in the endzone after the kick. He did a few splits in the air that would put most cheerleaders to shame.AppinVA wrote:I make a move that we just talk about Rauch's kick from now on.

Re: App Mich on the ESPN front page
Dexter got drafted in the 2nd round. The catch made that happen. Otherwise he's just another 5'9" 180 lb receiver that is a udfa. The same for Corey and his block. Go ask any NFL scout. Corey still owes us an apology.EastHallApp wrote:Rekdiver wrote:Corey made a huge mistake making that statement. I think we all understand his feelings about Jerry. I get why a lot of you aren't happy with Lynch's comments.
But, it is sad to see so many people completely dismiss Corey Lynch based off of one opinion.
Corey Lynch is angry. His coach was fired. If your favorite boss was fired, you'd probably still be angry a year later.
How can so many Mountaineers have such major problems with people like Corey Lynch and Jerry Moore?
If you don't like Corey Lynch and Jerry Moore, who the hell do you like?
Corey Lynch. All-American. Great student. Three time national champion. Biggest play in school history. Sealed the 2006 championship with an interception. SAVED A WOMAN'S LIFE.
And you're mad because he's mad about his coach getting fired?
Corey Lynch is a three time national champion BECAUSE he's the kind of guy who would get mad about his coach getting fired.

Re: App Mich on the ESPN front page
It's not so much him being upset about Moore's departure as it is him basically stating he's embarrassed by our program and may not be returning. He can be angry but to turn his back on the program that gave both him and Jerry a chance, especially taking the forgiving nature of the religion he embraces, is, for a lack of a better word, garbage.clayton wrote:I get why a lot of you aren't happy with Lynch's comments.

Do you guys really think NFL teams do their scouting from SportsCenter highlights? They take bunches of guys from small schools every year.AppRy wrote:I agree with Rek on this. Dexter went in the 2nd round because he ran a 4.3 40 at the combine. No doubt his performance in that game raised his stock tremendously, but it would have done so regardless of whether the final FG was good.

Re: App Mich on the ESPN front page
I don't think that. I do think our win and Dex being on the cover of SI played a role in getting him that combine invite. Not too mention getting that game tape passed around film rooms. They also pass on bunches of guys from all schools every year. Like I said, that line is razor thin.EastHallApp wrote:

If he was such a smart guy, great student, all-American then it seems it would have been pretty obvious to him not to throw your school under the bus over a situation where he either doesn't know the facts or just chose to ignore them. It was bush league and it was malicious.clayton wrote:I get why a lot of you aren't happy with Lynch's comments.

OK - let me get this straight - some of you have cast out one of the all-time football greats because --- He committed assault? - He committed domestic violence? - He committed robbery? - He committed manslaughter? - He committed murder? --- What? - You didn't like his opinion and where/when it was stated - Oh, OK, I get it - WOW!!!
evidently some of you guys are too young or way too lucky not to have a family member, close friend, mentor, etc., dissed by a former company, institution, group (whether perceived or real) that you once thought highly of and now you have nothing to do with???

Re: App Mich on the ESPN front page
Here's the rub-Corey is putting the perceived slighting of one man over the experience and joy that 100 members of the football team got on that day in 2007. He believes, wrongly, that Jerry Moore is more important than his teammates, the program, the alumni, and the school.
And of course we get to hear how anyone who disagrees with WV is just too young to understand. Get a new line, that one has gotten nod and stale.

Re: App Mich on the ESPN front page
Here are my abridged thoughts. If I were to convey what I would really like to say, I would be banned from this board.
I completely understand his loyalty to JM.
But to extend that loyalty beyond your alma mater and beyond the coaches and teammates that were part of that victory and will remember that day for the rest of their lives? To extend that loyalty beyond the program that found you in a small private school in Florida and give you a scholarship and an opportunity to play DI football? To say that you wish you had not done something that gave us (along with the 3 NCs) a national reputation, huge growth in our fanbase, and the option of moving to the FBS? And the timing! Just as we are moving to the FBS and getting ready to play Michigan again?
Unless there is further explanation or an apology from Lynch, I hope we never put him in the Hall of Fame, and I hope he never comes back to Boone.
And he would do well to read my signature line.
