Good point. But something tells me our very own IGGrier will be moving to Atlanta just to continue to heckle the poor bastard.Niner National wrote:Maybe he just wanted a job where he wouldn't have any fans to bother him.Gonzo wrote:I've heard all the supposed reasons, but it still stings that he left us for arguably the worst athletic department in the FBS.
He likes a fixer-upper???
Onward. I anxiously await the announcement of his successor.
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

There is more. Yes they are paying him more (5 years @ $300,000 vs $185.606 yr contract through 2017) but App will have to pony up more $$$ to our new hire anyway. However Cobb has a well known history in Atlanta and his wife is from ATL with family still there. When the job opened up many figured he would go after it.Niner National wrote:No reason to insult your athletic program. This is a clear step down. Ga State must have made him a financial offer that App couldn't match or maybe he just wanted to live in a bigger place than Boone after so many years there.
Anyway, it's done now and we will continue to move forward to our new future.

That played a role in why Ryan Odom left VT to be an assistant at Charlotte too.

On a side note, and this may be ignorant on my part but: what does Georgia State have to offer that ASU does not other than the urban center of Atlanta?
Not a damn thing. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Nobody in Georgia gives two hoots for GA State. If Charlie can change that, then it will be the greatest accomplishment by an AD in the history of the NCAA. I wish him the best, like many have said he's had his high moments and his lows but you can't overlook the fact that he guided this program through it's most successful period and I will always appreciate that. Looking forward to seeing who we can bring in and I hope and pray that it's someone up for the job of advancing on what we've already done and that the new Chancellor/AD team does not take us down the road that our friends from the Whee chose.

You can't overlook the fact that he was present for the through the most successful period. Whether his guidance had anything to do with that success is up for debate. It might be that he caught on with a star that was just beginning to rise and he just rode it to the top. Either way I have nothing against him. I hope he enjoys his time at Georgia State and I hope we find a great AD.AppinATL wrote:scatman77 wrote:This old-timer doesn't remember that much change in my times. That $185,606 figure came from the Winston Salem Journal. Thought it looked low but I didn't have time to look up the data. Sorry for the mistake. Should have double checked it but thought Tommy would have.appstfan wrote:"There is more. Agree odd that T-Bowman would miss that. Perhaps old database. Here is the state employee (colleges and university) link for the '13-'14 year:

185k was his old number. The database got updated recently because the 185k was up there for a long time. The four-year extension Cobb got last summer bumped him up to making more in base than Satterfield, although Satt's number has probably been bumped up by now and hasn't been released.
Re: AJC Report: Cobb New Ga. St. AD
Pretty significant raise, and one of the main objectives of the new GSU AD is to procure what is soon to be the former grounds of Turner Field, and repurpose it into a Football Stadium/Athletic Facility/Student Living complex. Ideally, they would retrofit The Ted into a 30k'ish football stadium, which would be an absolute game changer for GSU.
Anyway, if he can pull that off, the world will be his oyster. I'm sure the money helped and family...but also getting away from the idiots who still give him zero credit for our growth and success. Even though we had no facilities plan in place before he got here, and everyone wanted Jerry Moore gone. How soon we forget.
I wish him the best. He can push GSU to the next level, now we need to find the person to take us to a level beyond where he left us. It's going to be interesting.

Often times leaders that take on huge projects and are successful are good candidates at other companies.asug8 wrote:One can't help but wonder about the timing of the Sunbelt move and the departure of the two biggest cheerleleaders before the first snap.

Re: AJC Report: Cobb New Ga. St. AD
FYI - Georgia State actually has quite a bit of financial support from the local business community in Atlanta. You wouldn't think it but the graduate programs at Georgia State are actually more successful than the ones at UGA. Reason being, it's in Atlanta! The biggest city in the south!
I wouldn't have thought any of this but I recently spent some time with the Director of Marketing for UGA who said they struggle to attract MBA candidates from Ga State because Athens is a college town much stronger in undergrad (as if that needs to be stated).
Personally, I don't think any of the financial support will ultimately matter because sports like football are fueled by support by students, nostalgic former students and parents of students (like most of us here).
Oh well. Can't wait till we see Jason Capel on the court for the Panthers! (I kid, I kid.)

Re: AJC Report: Cobb New Ga. St. AD
The reason the Braves are leaving Turner Field is because it's in the middle of the hood. If I'm a parent, no way I want my kid living in that area of Atlanta (if it's true about the living complex being part of the Turner FIeld deal).appgrad wrote:Pretty significant raise, and one of the main objectives of the new GSU AD is to procure what is soon to be the former grounds of Turner Field, and repurpose it into a Football Stadium/Athletic Facility/Student Living complex. Mike isnt coming to Boone. He jus started a new job for his long time friend and former boss at Illinois. He isn't going to back out on a close friend. Had that not happenwd I'm sure he would have put his name in the mix.asu66 wrote:firemoose wrote:Just tweeted moments ago.
