It puts the entire UNC system in bad light, and honestly, I'm sure UNC is okay with that. They don't want to go down alone, so if that means that the UNC system takes a hit, they'll accept it.

UNC responds to renewed NCAA scrutiny...

http://www.wfmynews2.com/story/sports/c ... /11789361/

UNC Sports and Information Department 3:16 p.m. EDT June 30, 2014

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has received a verbal notice of inquiry from the NCAA that it will reopen its 2011 examination of academic irregularities. The NCAA has determined that additional people with information and others who were previously uncooperative might now be willing to speak with the enforcement staff.

Since 2011, the University has conducted and commissioned numerous reviews of this matter and provided the NCAA with updates. In February, the University retained former federal prosecutor Kenneth Wainstein to conduct an independent investigation and instructed him to share relevant information directly and confidentially with the NCAA.

The University has instituted numerous academic reforms based on findings from earlier reports that can be found at http://carolinacommitment.unc.edu/ We remain committed to learning from our past so that we can move forward to building a stronger University.

Consistent with NCAA protocols, we will have no further comment on this matter until the process is complete.

Appgrad1, I apologize if anyone stooped to calling you names on this or any App message board, that kind of response should not be tolerated, this board was set up for App fans to have intelligent discussions (most of the time) on everything App, its okay for us to disagree, just not cross that line where we start insulting each other with name calling.

I disagree. When Alabama, USC, FSU, etc. have there troubles I don't think "man UAB, UCLA, and South Florida need to clean up their act". I think poorly of the wrong doers.

We don't get credit for the good UNCCH does, so why would their less than ethical behavior impact our image. Has to go both ways.

Because if our "top" and "namesake" institution is doing wrong, it makes it look like the entire system is doing wrong.

I've always said this...
I'm so glad the NCAA has your stamp of approval.

They should've gotten reprimanded the first go around, but when you hire a UNC grad to investigate a UNC scandal, the amount of corruption that will be allowed through is UNControllable.

I'm sure you are ALL KNOWING of all the facts that the ncaa has on the case up to date don't you?
Maybe you had more info than them. You should have set up a meeting to discuss it with them or was you info derived from message board hate?
Mmmm...message board hate--I can smell the deliciousness!

My biggest issue with all of this has been that the NCAA originally declared that the issue at UNC was an academic issue, therefore they should not be involved. Yet, App's basketball players perform poorly in class and the NCAA sees fit to ban App State from postseason play because of academics. Yes, my biggest issue is with the NCAA, but if UNC did cheat (which appears likely), then I hope the NCAA hammers them.

I agree with Saint. When Calipari was cheating at Memphis, I didn't think, "wow...ETSU and MTSU must be corrupt as well!"

I agree with Saint on this - I have talked to college coaches, administrators and fans from here to LA and not one has mentioned the negative affect this will have on anyone but UNC-Chapel Hill (and several are UNC-CH grads) ---

My comment was not on the UNC system but rather the state. When your flagship school appears to be so terribly corrupt I would think it has to look bad for us. If not then good deal.

To prove a point I will ask a ridiculous question.

Do you believe Pittsburgh coaches play with little boys in the shower too?

I have no idea but do you honestly believe there were less than hundreds of people who knew what was going on in the shower and motel rooms? Does it kind of make you wonder about the people around there?

The corruption in Chapel Hill fails in comparison to the corruption that has been in Raleigh for years. If people associated the reputation of a few to the entire state when it came to corruption--North Carolina would certainly already be viewed that way. I think it will all be ok, and hopefully that involves sanctions on UNC if they are/were corrupt.
