Used to make runs to Trade, TN too. We would get Drummond Brothers, haven't seen that brand anywhere else since.

Just heard they stopped making that brand.

My guess on the decision to implode Winkler is that it didn't house many students for the size of it's footprint. Probably more bang for the buck to start over.

I think the best use for the Winkler site would be to build a parking deck large enough to eliminate the need for the State Farm parking lot. Once it is finished build a Track and Field complex on the current parking lot at State Farm. Students could keep their cars in the deck on football game days, T&F gets their own facility, the university doesn't have to purchase high priced land, and the football stadium can then be expanded as a football only facility. It would be the most economical, and straight forward fix to several problems at once. We could even build a dorm on top of the deck if need be to get State funding.

I doubt they are going to put a track on a flood plain.

The soccer stadium is in a flood plain and it's my understanding the site for the new College of Health Sciences is also in a flood plain. All you have to do is build up the pad above the "100 year" flood stage level and you're ready to go. Lowes raised the site before building a store there.

There were a couple of serious floods while I was in school, and I don't remember the parking lot being flooded. The fields at State Farm were under water, but the parking lot is built up higher so it was dry.

I don't remember the parking lot flooded either just the field, which might be allowed anyway. I think a little bit of proper drainage might be all that's needed. Even if not, like Kgfish said, the pad has to be built 1' higher than the 100 level and fill dirt could be used for the field if needed. But I still don't mind the track around the FB field. :D

I want it gone. Besides looking high schoolish it makes it impossible to get permanent seats close to the field. I don't like all purpose stadiums since they serve no single sport as well as it should. As we used to call it back in the day - Conrad Not A Football Stadium.
