Understood. Didn't know if we did it also.asu66 wrote:bcoach wrote:After he gets what he can. Fill the rest of the roster for the first year with club players. Have student tryouts. It would fill out the roster for practices and with a minute to go in a blowout either way put one in and watch the students go crazy. Let's have some fun
That was going to happen anyway. It's traditional at most schools to hold a day or two of try-outs to fill out the roster with good students who can also play basketball at a practice level or higher.

If those of you who like me are old enough to have been at App when Bobby Cremins arrived with Gene Littles remember, they both went to Broome Kirk scouting out potential walk ons by playing pick up ball. They two were inheriting a program that was very close to the worst in the country several years running. You may be surprised at teh potential talent tha tmay be walking around campus.

That's a stunner. GHC? We're talking open enrollment junior college here. Wonder what he was thinking? Did he have academic issues we didn't know about?firemoose wrote:Jut to wrap this one up Toney has gone to GA Highlands College.

Didn't say it but was wondering the same thing. He had a shirt to burn so why go OE-JUCO? Doesn't make much sense.asu66 wrote:That's a stunner. GHC? We're talking open enrollment junior college here. Going from a four-year institution to a two-year institution means the loss of an APR point.

Really? - that is crazy - the kid is continuing his education - BUT, it's acceptable for a kid to go to Kentucky for 1 year and then go Pro? - makes no senseT-Dog wrote:Going from a four-year institution to a two-year institution means the loss of an APR point.

Hopefully a good outcome for both of us. He will continue his education and we shed an academic burden.8993 wrote:He was on academic probation, yes.firemoose wrote:Didn't say it but was wondering the same thing. Re: Toney gone!
Late response, but it all has to do with academic eligibility. Schools APR is adjusted for players going pro or transferring to another four-year institution before graduation while in good academic standing.WVAPPeer wrote:Really? - that is crazy - the kid is continuing his education - BUT, it's acceptable for a kid to go to Kentucky for 1 year and then go Pro? - makes no senseT-Dog wrote:Going from a four-year institution to a two-year institution means the loss of an APR point.
Right now, Ty Toney is not on pace to graduate from a four-year institution and if he left in bad academic standing, that's not good.
Also, players who go pro or transfer but later earn their degree earns the school a free APR point. Marcus Wright got his App degree this spring so that means a free point.

Re: Toney gone!
Just to be clear Ty Toney was and is in great academic standing with a 3 point plus gpa. He is most certainly, without a doubt on schedule to graduate from a four year institution. Please get your facts straight before you post something you have no clue about! Thanks!
