Hope it is nothing bad, but it sounds like something else may be going on.

Is it possible someone placed a curse on the App State PG position? That spot has a higher turnover rate than the Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor at Hogwarts.

Wow! We can't seem to land a PG. He makes the fourth in three years who was seemingly headed to Boone and then poof, he's gone.

We just put out an offer to an FAU decommit for 2014 that is more athletic, maybe he didn't want the competition?

Yes Armel Potter. Not sure who is more athletic, but Potter would have the opportunity to play immediately. He'll be in Boone Thursday for a visit.

You're spot on. Teven Jones would have to sit a year in order to play a year and a half. Not a good situation for Teven or for ASU. By all accounts, he's a smart and respectful young man. I hope he can find a good situation for him and for his new school. He deserves a better taste of basketball life than he's been afforded to date.
In the meantime, ASU now has the opportunity to sign a player with four years of eligibility--rather than one and a half. I'm actually a little more comfortable with that, although I was looking forward to having Teven in Black & Gold next October.

Re: Teven Jones
He might not even be leaving UVA now. He just said he wasn't going to App. From the articles above his Mom didn't want him to transfer and Sunday was Mother's Day. Who knows but I wish him the best and hope Potter and/or Babic decide App is the fit for them.asu66 wrote:AppHoops wrote:ASUPATCH wrote:We just put out an offer to an FAU decommit for 2014 that is more athletic, maybe he didn't want the competition?

Re: Teven Jones
There is NOTHING wrong with Teven, and nothing wrong with the ASU PG position or ASU Basketball. Things got a little ahead of themselves when adults not necessarily close to the situation got involved and it put Teven a little ahead of schedule with what was/would happen. HE WANTED APP, APP wanted him. It just did not work out.

Good Grief. I never said there was anything wrong with Teven and what I said about his mother was in the articles in this thread. Not speculation. She clearly stated that she didn't want him to transfer, by his own words. The line about Mother's Day was a jest. I may make a joke or two from time to time but I ALWAYS confirm facts before I post them. And I wished him the best no matter where he winds up.asutrnr81 wrote:There is NOTHING wrong with Teven, and nothing wrong with the ASU PG position or ASU Basketball. It's no wonder I don't post much outside the recruiting threads. I might need to rethink that as well.

Yeah, I'm the one who brought up the App PG "curse," and I think that was about as obviously a joke as it possibly could have been.firemoose wrote:Good Grief. Re: Teven Jones
And the reality is we have essentially lost four in the last three years. I don't think anyone has any ill feelings towards Teven. I think we were all happy to have such a fine young man on our roster. In the end, I think we all wish him well and want him to do what fits his needs first and foremost.
Re: Teven Jones
Moose, I was not even thinking of anything you posted prior so do not speculate: I knew there was more to this story from the start that is why I did not celebrate his "commitment." The adults I was actually speaking of were from UVA. The moment he "left" UVA I thought it was interesting because he only had 1.5 years left. Now what D-1 school in their right mind was going to "sign" a transfer PG from ANYWHERE that had to sit out a year and on top of that only have 1.5 years left to play. How was anyone going to make that work.firemoose wrote:Good Grief. I never said there was anything wrong with Teven and what I said about his mother was in the articles in this thread. The adults I am talking about were from UVA, because he wanted ASU. They knew that and that info was leaked out of Charlottesville. ....and it put the kid in a bad spot. He had no idea when he "left" UVA that with only 1.5 years of eligibility left that few if any schools he "could" "should" get into would help him out and why should we. They gave him no advice and basically let him go so they could too.
Now we have a kid that unless he goes D-II will not play much basketball, but worse he gave up an education from UVA that many would consider priceless. YOU had nothing to do with any of that, and you did not make him tweet anything about coming to ASU. But the adults around him at UVA knew he wanted ASU, and painted him in a corner to save face so he tweeted he was coming, PRIOR to having all the details worked out. Was he im-mature for that....yes....but at some point some of this accountability has to fall on those folks at UVA that did not advise him well.
As for his mom, she is rightly mad....she sent her son to a school and they gave him some bad advise, or no advise. He is still a great kid with impeccable character, but this has hurt him. I did not talk to Teven prior to his leaving or sense because frankly I wanted to see him play at APP. I emailed Coach Fox to stand up for his character as a person, hoping that he could find a way to get that other semester but in the end it did not happen.....and you were not then nor are you now a target of mine. There "APPeared" to be a lot of speculation about why. I just wanted the kid left alone. We are grown men, he is my son's age, he just made a mistake that changed his life maybe forever and the people he trusted did not give him good advice. It is that simple.
I think the world of you for who you are and what you do. I just hate this hAPPened the way it did and the impact it has had on him and his family! He deserved better out of high school and he deserves better now.....and there is NOTHING ASU or anyone associated with ASU all the way down to me can do to make this better.

That's too bad. He is a class kid and I don't blame his mother for wanting him to get his degree from UVA. He's got friends and a lot of fans there. Question is will he be allowed to stay on the team?

Thank you. I truly APPreciate the reply and explanation. I know it's not an excuse but I'm having a pretty bad reaction to the meds I'm on, AGAIN (something I'm getting very tired of but they are the only thing that works) and when the post came right after mine I assumed you were talking about me. I hope you will accept an apology from this jack ass. One of these days I'll be back to my usual cheerful self. That day will come when I never hear the name Prednisone or any corticosteroid again.asutrnr81 wrote:Moose, I was not even thinking of anything you posted prior so do not speculate: I knew there was more to this story from the start that is why I did not celebrate his "commitment." Re: Teven Jones
Not to pile on the kid when it sounds like he's gotten a bad break, but if coaches thought he could play you can bet he'd have no trouble finding a transfer destination. UCLA took Larry Drew from UNC when he had only 1 year left. If one of the top 6-7 programs in the nation would do it for an ACC backup, then surely App or any number of other struggling teams would do so if they thought he could help. For that matter, I may be off here, but didn't Donte Minter have 1.5 years of eligibility at App?asutrnr81 wrote:Now what D-1 school in their right mind was going to "sign" a transfer PG from ANYWHERE that had to sit out a year and on top of that only have 1.5 years left to play. That said, it really stinks if what I think you are implying is true. Very bad look for UVa.

Whatever Donte had, as I recall he played two "second" semesters. In TJ case the school from my viewpoint would have had to be creative with when he started to play and the NCAA might have had a say in that. Does he play two fall and only one spring, sit out 1.5 years and then play 3 straight semesters? IMO, it just does not work for him very well. Bottom line, he needs a college degree, and basketball helps make that happen. I wish him luck!EastHallApp wrote:Not to pile on the kid when it sounds like he's gotten a bad break, but if coaches thought he could play you can bet he'd have no trouble finding a transfer destination. IMO, and I like him, but he is not Larry Drew. I never thought he was elite ACC, but the kid deserved better than this. I honestly thought he was mid-major which ain't bad.

What the latest on Teven? Watauga Democrat article on the 23 said he was still committed to App. Though I know on his twitter he said he wasn't coming, anyone heard anything?
