APR/GPA - whatever - Question
OK - here goes --- According to many who know, APP is looking at a post-season ban because of the APR/GPA rules - As we know, UConn just came off a ban - Please explain how Kentucky gets a pass on this? - Probably all their freshmen leaving after basically 1 semester right on top of several classes of recruits which left early - When was the last time a freshman scholarship player made it all the way through to graduation? - Why is this not considered in violation? ---

Re: APR/GPA - whatever - Question
Apparently they are convincing the departing freshman to complete their Spring semester classes. If a student athlete leaves for a professional position they are not counted against APR as long as they leave in good academic standing. There is no stipulation as to what courses the student must pursue, they just have to be making adequate progress towards a degree to count as full credit for the semester.
So....if they just quit going to class after the basketball season and essentially drop out of school, they count against the school. This is where those no-show and on-line classes come in handy.

Re: APR/GPA - whatever - Question
A lot of those UK players I believe enroll in the summer and start taking classes then to get a head start. By the time basketball season starts, they have done most of the "work" they need to in order to be "on track to graduate" when they leave in the spring.

Re: APR/GPA - whatever - Question
thanks - I don't think a school should be punished for kids who transfer or leave early but on the other hand what Kentucky does is a joke in regards to "student-athlete" ===
I know the NBA is driving this but the NCAA should impose a rule similar to what is used governing baseball --- Not to diminish APP's reported APR problems but at least the kids are in school and have been there for 2-3-4 years instead of maybe 2 semesters === I'm not disparaging the Kentucky players - many probably could have been successful college students but the system is a joke ---
