We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Didn't someone on here post that Coach Lutz is making more in his current position than we now pay Coach Capel? I'm not certain, but I seem to recall that post.AppGrad1 wrote:Bobby Lutz

Re: Predict the next coach thread
If we're going to the out-of-work coaches network, give me Pearl over Greenberg. One NCAA trip in 16 years since leaving Long Beach doesn't do much for me.

It depends on if he wants to be a head coach again if he's willing to take a pay cut.
Re: Predict the next coach thread
We should give Bruce Pearl some consideration, although he does come with some baggage.
He's a proven winner and has be ability to turn around a program. He is very energetic and would bring spark and emotion to a program that desperately needs it.
He wants to get back into coaching and might be willing to accept the low salary that we offer.

Re: Predict the next coach thread
My opinion, which doen't count in the big APP decision room, is APP needs to invest $$$ in a basketball coach that has a track record and will bring in wins.
Sunbelt BBall is moving up in leagues and we can NOT afford another bad decision.
A good decision will bring in fans and money. Its NOT time to save $$$$ !!

I like the list to start with.wataugan03 wrote:Jerry Wainwright (Marquette asst. former UNCW, Richmond, Depaul HC), Ron Lievense (Bartion), Dip Metress (Augusta State), Mike Leaf (Winona State), Levelle Moton (NCCU), Matt McMahon, Marty McGillan (Witchita asst.), Mike Rhoades (VCU asst.), Bobby Lutz (NCSU asst. former UNCC head coach), Mick Winiecki (Clemson asst.), Ramon Williams (asst. Virginia Tech), Dennis Gates (asst. Florida State)
Or someone I've never heard of. Chances are none of us will know a lot about whoever we hire. I just hope they have more than 9 months of coaching experience.
Honest to God, anyone who can coach basics might have us at .500 in short order. We do not even know IF we have talent....we can't coach it. Energy, Spark and Emotion wins NOTHING if they cna't play basic defense and run an offense not centered around the "3".TheWeasel wrote:We should give Bruce Pearl some consideration, although he does come with some baggage.

Bobby Lutz if he has the energy and will to really want to build something. He would possibly stay for a few years too. He knows the area, knows how to recruit the area and has proven that he CAN be a proven winner. I'm sure he has great ties to many high school programs as well.

Politics? Really? I received my degree in PoliSci from ASU (Public Administration). I was a member of the debate team. If people want to argue politics, I can hold my own ... but for goodness sake, could we DO IT ELSEWHERE. I also played football and love ASU ATHLETICS, which IS why I'm here. Maybe you could take political argumentation to general discussion ..please?
Now, for what this thread was intended for ... wouldn't mind seeing Linc Darner, Mike Rhoades (VCU), Terry Johnson (Butler) or Dane Fife (MichSt) on the list. Add any experienced assistant, with "mid-major" recruiting experience (hopefully one recovering from a dismal season), at a program that stresses defense. For that matter, can we still claim "mid-major" status? Anything "major" seems out of place right now.

Lutz is making $240,000/yr at NCSU, plus we have been paying him his base salary of $237,000/yr but that ends March 31, 2014(finally!).JCline0429 wrote:Didn't someone on here post that Coach Lutz is making more in his current position than we now pay Coach Capel? Lutz's 2008 contract with Charlotte paid him about $455,000 plus incentives, some of which he got, most probably not because they were performance based. He was probably making around $500,000/yr. Here is his contract - http://www.wral.com/news/local/flash/5917087/ . I think you will find it interesting to see about what to expect, but remember this was 6 years ago.

Several years ago a few of us asked the moderators to include a section for political discourse so we wouldn't have to read political opinion in the middle of a discussion about athletics. All you have to do is ask the moderator for access. It has proved to be one of the best moves the moderators ever made--when it is used.

Re: Predict the next coach thread
There are plenty of coaches that could do the job, but I think that if we want to attract the right people we need to make performance a large factor of their salary. I don't know if we do that now or not. To me it wouldn't be just based on the NCAA Playoffs but also for the number of conference games won/year. If structured correctly it would reward winning coaches and starve out losing ones. Fans, etc shouldn't care because if people start coming to the games we'd more than make up the cost in revenue. I'm just not sure if we have the people in place that can make a quality decision on a coach much less a contract.Nugget49 wrote:
