We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

"Well, in a lot of ways it is better than from where we came"
Is the second person in the above hypothetical an ass hole? Is that comment irrelevant and troll-like?
Crucify me for looking to the bright side. Geez. I refuse to apologize for not wallowing in misery at the prospect of the highest level of college football. I loved the FCS playoffs. It is all I've known of App State football. I point out the FCS' shortcomings purely as a counter to the relentless bashing of our new subdivision by a select few.
I'm pretty sure that, to a few of you, anything I post is poisoned no matter how reasonable it actually is.
Vega is the biggest troll on the MMB. I don't care how much free time he has to play on Adobe CS6.
Pointing out the inherent flaws in the FBS is not wallowing in misery, at least not by my definition. I am happy that we are joining the Sun Belt. I am glad we will get the opportunity to play games against teams we have felt we should be playing. I will watch however many games we are fortunate enough to play in a season. I realize that FCS was/is a dying breed. I also realize that the FBS model is broken. It is ruled by the very few who have the most and will continue to be so. The current bowl system is ridiculous. Pointing that out does not make me any less excited, much less miserable. It isn't either/or, it isn't all or nothing. That point seems to elude a lot of people on both sides of this conversation.
The current bowl system, other than the very few major bowls, is hardly more than a 13th game played in a neutral venue for the left over money that the big boys didn't get.

The simple truth of the matter is that the bowl system no longer has the prestige it had at one time. It used to be a reward for a successful season. It is now just an opportunity to play another game. I don't see that the opportunity to play another game is a bad thing. I also don't see it as a reward for exceptional play if you can get in with a .500 record or 5th in your league. It is another out of conference game to play. To my way of thinking another game is great but the trophy is very similar to the Jug. It represents the victory of that game but has no bearing on how successful your season was. It is a way to get some more practice and one more game. In the scope of things it is no bigger than our opening game against Michigan, but it is one more game. Who can argue with seeing one more game? Is that a problem for anyone?

It, in many cases is not bigger than an opening home game vs anybody. BTW, thanks for saying more eloquently what I said in the post just prior to yours.

If you aren't in the power 5 there is little national prestige left to spread around.
And less still for the FCS.
Numbers don't lie people. It's a good thing the FBS dissenters can't shut down App football just because they didn't get their way like what's going on in Washington.

Seems to me that the FBS crowd grows quieter with each loss while those that argued against this move grow louder...
Time will tell troll, time will tell.....
I have no reason to post about FBS vs FCS anymore. The battle is over and we're moving up.

Some would say it wasn't a battle in the win/lose sense of the terminology , rather what we had to do with the impending dissolution of the SoCon and the attrition from the FCS nationwide.

I know I'm late to the party, but I'd say the playoffs have lost a lot of prestige as well. Every conference champion will get a chance, the slate will be 24+ teams and both of those factors alone will open the door for teams with non-winning records to make the playoffs... add to that the amount of good programs that have left, or will leave... App, GSU, ODU, and likely JMU... all of which were preceded by many others, the "cream of the crop" is not what it used to be.
I like the bowl tie-ins we have in the Sunbelt, and I think as bowl contracts expire, and the strength of the SBC increases, you will see higher quality opponents square off against SBC teams. SBC has a winning record over both the MAC and CUSA for the last three years. Despite our current record, I think that App and GSU will only add to the conference and its football prowess over time. And for our first foray into FBS in 30 years, its a good place to start. We all may think differently about getting into a bowl at 6-6 after we play FBS teams week in and week out... it might be more of an accomplishment than you think!

I will never think that 6-6 is an accomplishment. If I thought 50% was an accomplishment my business would closed long ago.

I, for one, agree, bbcoach. If a bowl invite is a reward, then .500 would not deserve one no matter the competition. But hey, there are so many bowls popping up that sooner or later there are going to have to be some .500 teams invited. It's logical that we might, at some point in time, earn one of those spots. No matter the bowl, I will still be backing the Apps.

Am sure that this years team would love to be 6-6 and playing in a bowl game.
Gives them a television game to show their talents and win one more for App State.
Would like to think we would make some money off the bowl game, but have reservations about that.
Would help us by the additional practice and game experience for the next year though.
All or at least most of the bowl games outdraw the television ratings of the FCS national championship
game so that is a plus.
Reputation wise for recruiting assistance a bowl game could be a big plus.
No matter the record perception is that a winning bowl team has had a successful season.

Methinks running a business and a bowl game for finishing .500 a just a little bit different.

Just as long as we aren't one of those schools losing six figures in revenue to play in those bowls. But I've read too many of those stories to think we won't be paying for the privilege of playing a midweek game in December.
It is what it is, but it's not all happy faces and flowers when a mid major gets into a bowl game. That's a proven fact.

It seems to me that 50% as a measure of success is entirely based upon what you are measuring. Could you imagine a baseball player finishing the season with 50% batting average? Or a basketball player that averages 50% from 3pt range? Both would be outstanding success stories. For some rebuilding football programs 50% is success. It is may not the type of success that you rest upon, but success that you use to continue to build upon.
“When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows.”

A new cream of the crop will rise, just like it did before. Just like we finally did.
And there's 1-A teams that haven't liked facing the absolute cream of the crop the last 3 years, particularly that group in Fargo.

Well collage football is a business so I still don't think .500 is anything to brag about. Again another game is great but .500 is not something to be rewarded for. It is something to be corrected. A bowl is a good way to do that as you get a lot of extra practice.

College football is a business, but the players (and by extension the team) are not employees. I just think it's a poor analogy. Other than that, we're mostly in agreement.

It is a way to get some more practice and one more game. In the scope of things it is no bigger than our opening game against Michigan, but it is one more game. Who can argue with seeing one more game? Is that a problem for anyone?

Methinks running a business and a bowl game for finishing .500 a just a little bit different.
Someone who bats .500 in baseball is setting the world on fire.

You're right it's entertainment, as long as someone wants to pay and watch give them what they want. To me it's kind of like saying there are too many songs in the world or too many movies.

Well the players actually do get paid by way of scholarship. The coaches and the AD get paid in cash. But I am just messin with ya. I get what you are saying. My point is only that it really is no longer a reward for a good season like it used to be. Believe me when we are in a bowl I will be glued to the TV.

But a team who finishes at .500 won /lost is not.
