That's true for the P5 schools since the NCAA has started to hand out waivers for their sub .500 teams. I doubt any team from a G5 conference would make a bowl with less than 7 wins (most have 8 or more). If the NCAA and bowls would require 7 wins this would be a moot point.appst89 wrote:This pretty much guarantees sub-.500 teams in bowl games every year. I believe this now brings the total to 37 or 38 bowl games. I'll be happy to watch App play as many games as possible, but there is no longer any reward for a bowl game.
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Re: 3 More Bowls
I'm guessing here but if you were to ask or give NDSU the choice of either Frisco or the GoDaddy Bowl at the end of this season, I think I know what the answer would be --- play for the National Championship ---
Look, I understand where we are now and I hope we go to a bowl game the first year possible but I do believe many have cut down the FCS without good reason - Haven't there been something like 10-12 victories this season over FBS? - the good programs will continue to be good - they will continue to be competitive - they are not going away ---
Now for the SoCon - it is totally understandable why we needed to leave them behind - they will have become a joke - they have lost their 2 top football programs - their top basketball programs and top baseball programs - We had to get out of the SoCon ---

But is accepting that where we are going is better place than whence we came cutting down the FCS?WVAPPeer wrote: Look, I understand where we are now and I hope we go to a bowl game the first year possible but I do believe many have cut down the FCS without good reason
A national poll would yield different results than a poll of 100% NDSU fans.

I would say if NDSU wins the NC more people will know that nationally than who won the GoDaddy Bowl ---

The fact that that is even debatable ought to tell you something. We won it 3 times in a row, but most college football fans only remember us for one thing...and it's not the NCs.

not from my experiences over the years - people see me with the A gear on and the majority mention the national championships as well as MichiganAppsolutely wrote:"I would say if NDSU wins the NC more people will know that nationally than who won the GoDaddy Bowl ---"

Good news for us since the P5 conferences are trying to push the G5 schools out of many bowls. That means the SB could have up to 5 bowl games.

Sounds like all we may have to do is finish about 5th in the conference to get as a huge shot at bowl bid. How rewarding.

Sorry but I'm not sure it is comparable - WV has played in the Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl, etc., and every other major bowl except the Rose, played in one theoretical National Championship Game and was 3 points from playing in an actual national championship game - it would be WONDERFUL if APP could get to that point, but you and I both know that is not possible ---

Re: 3 More Bowls
And there you have it folks.
Success at the highest level isn't possible for a little school like Appalachian we should shut our mouth and know our place I guess.
I don't know what isn't possible for App, but if you never try it will never be possible.

Re: 3 More Bowls
Who said anything about a national title game. I don't believe either App or WV will play for the national title in my lifetime.
You believe that App can never be on an even playing field with WV, I disagree. Why should App take a back seat to any program. We deserve a professional degree as much as anyone and we deserve to be as good as we can be in athletics as well.
Maybe that is a silly notion to you, but if we never try we will get no closer.
Fans of P5 schools that pull for App on the side can't believe that someone at App would want to rise to their level and compete. Well we do.

Well WV has already played in one in your lifetime

Define "even playing field"

First pic in my sig should tell everyone exactly how I feel....
Until they create a sub-BCS playoff field I'm going to respectively decline going to any of these silly bowl games...
And my usual Kidd-Brewer entourage of 7+ are doing the same.

Even if they are silly, isn't it better to have one more tailgate and one more chance to see the team? I will miss the playoffs too but I will try and see as many games as I can.vegattk wrote:First pic in my sig should tell everyone exactly how I feel....

I enjoyed the extra opportunities to tailgate in Boone in our good years... Multiple games... At home... Within reasonable driving distance.... with friends and family... without having to spend so much money...bh2oson wrote:Even if they are silly, isn't it better to have one more tailgate and one more chance to see the team?
