The first time I saw him with the ball, he reminded me of AE as having the natural instincts that aren't coachable. If he stays healthy and is used properly, he could really be a special Mountaineer.

We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Cox will be another special player for ASU. It's amazing that he is a true freshman. Cox and Price will be quite hard to defend against as the season goes on.

Also, a shout-out goes to the offensive line for the holes they created on our final drive. Tremendous job at gut-check time. I didn't want to give the ball back to Elon with a chance for them to win the game.

Yesterday was a step in the right direction.

Completely agree with you comments. One factor in that last possession when Cox was ripping them for 15+ yards per carry is that Elon went to a nickle D to prevent the big pass play, so they have few LBs (their strength) to stop the run. I'm not saying that to diminish the performance by Cox or the OL. I'm just pointing out what happens when the passing game is flowing and we are not one diminisional. They picked their poison, and we burned them with what they gave us. The OL has had to battle stacked lines the past two weeks, because we really weren't clicking in the passing game. The pass will open up the run, and vice versa.

They might have been in a prevent D on our last drive, but what I found encouraging was Cox was getting an extra 5-7 yds after the initial hit. A STUD performance!

Absolutely! Cox runs hard and never seems to go down on first contact. He shows the potential to be a GREAT running back for us. I certainly wasn't trying to detract from his effort in the end. Bottom line is that, even once they had figured out exactly what we were doing, he just kept on doing it!

This kid is the future. Look out Sun Belt.

It seems that all our all-stars are incredibly young. Price, Cox, Law ect. We are in great shape for the future. Rocky start of 0-2 notwithstanding, this program is poised to be very good for a long time.

I was stating from Day 1 that Cox needed to start over Ricky Ferguson and get a lot more touches. However, there were many that either disagreed or were wondering why Ricky was being unfairly evaluated. No disrespect to Ricky, but Marcus Cox has shown me that he is a special player from the beginning and I simply felt he deserved the recognition. It seemed like every time Marcus got a touch, whether receiving or running, he was picking up sizeable yardage where Ricky would struggle to pick up 3 yards per carry.

I am not surprised of the performance that Cox put in last night nor the one that John Law did as well...In the end, we're young, talented and these guys can play!!! It's GREAT to be a Mountaineer!!! GO APPS!!!

Why would Elon play a prevent D on that last drive when they were DOWN 3 points and needed to get the ball back quickly? It just doesn't make any sense. They should have been stacking the line and stuffing the run, daring us to pass and risk stopping the clock.

On the touchdown, he didn't seem to have been touched.

Good question AppAttack. I was wondering that one too during the game., :? but glad they did it.
Also, why did they cancel their Fanfest this year over a little rain + Why are they going to CAA + Why didn't they want us to organize a tailgate this year = They ARE Elon. They are a puzzlement to me.

PS. Great Job Marcus Cox! Our running back future is looking better now!

Between Cox and Upshaw who seems to be getting a redshirt this year, our RB future seems to be pretty bright going forward

I'm curious to see how Upshaw turns out since he was considered a steal for us at the last minute

At least I can answer one of your questions. IIRC over 70% of Elon students are from out of state with the majority of them being from the northeastern US. The CAA puts them in better geographical position for parents to see games, recruit the yamn dankees they prefer, etc.
