I'm sure Maye will have a great day against us, but I will say this, what I saw from Jordan Travis would scare the hell out of me if we were playing them this Saturday
And per the comments about the offensive style of play, back when we had better players than most teams we played it was so - I really don't remember that in recent years - How did we win at Texas A&M last year? Ball control. Run the clock and that was before the clock changes of this season. I see that as maybe the only way we win this Saturday as we will not be able to run up and down the field with the holes.

Maye better not count his chickens. Our edge rushers have speed, intensity, anger, and determination. Im up for them to put some soreness in those baby blue bones.

I love our OLB room, even without the Awbern transfer. Re: Up Next...UNC
I have to agree with you here. The key's to winning the UNC game will be similar to the A&M game 1. Ball control 2. Running game being dependable and consistent 3. The defense line pressuring Maye. I think if we can execute on those three things we can win any game. I was at the A&M game last year and will be at the UNC game this year - really looking forward to a strong performance by AppWVAPPeer wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 9:24 amI'm sure Maye will have a great day against us, but I will say this, what I saw from Jordan Travis would scare the hell out of me if we were playing them this Saturday

I was a freshman in 2005, so I had the joy of experiencing the Nat'l Championship runs and the Armanti years, so I do consider myself a little spoiled. I know there have been years in between but even during the Taylor Lamb and Zac Thomas era's it seemed that we were way more aggressive offensively.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 9:17 amHow far back into the memory bank are you going? Re: Up Next...UNC
I think the key is staying in your pass rush lanes as much as possible. Maye is very good at finding the hole if there is one if no receiver is open. Overall, I feel like we have more depth, however, not sure we have the one player yet that could wreak some havoc like Meech on DL at this point in time. We have some young guys that will evolve into that hopefully with more time with S&C coach. With that said, maybe several standout on Saturday. Maybe Saturday is their time to shine.311neers wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 9:42 amI love our OLB room, even without the Awbern transfer. Re: Up Next...UNC
I really liked the youth in the defense. The three that stood out to me were Hopper, Spellman and Johnson. Talent doesn’t seem to be the problem going forward. But these young kids have to play with clean eyes this week as Lindsay is going to challenge them to react to what they see and not trust what they know.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 10:50 amI think the key is staying in your pass rush lanes as much as possible. Re: Up Next...UNC
One thing I have to always remind myself of when reflecting on a game like GW is that the coaches use this type of game to build our team. As much as I would like to roll a team and show our domination, the more valuable use of this game is to work our kinks and get our players ready for the upcoming games. It's really an investment in the longer term rather than a quick moment of satisfaction.
Assuming they did this then I will be more happy with future games.

Re: Up Next...UNC
the key to this game is the maturity of our player leaders.
We need to play with focus and accountability
I expect an APP State fight..... we will see who is in Chapel Hill to give their all for Appalachian State !!!

Re: Up Next...UNC
Theres no denying that play calling the last 2 years has been vanilla and lacking pizaz. I wish we would vary the pace of play like Drinkwitz did and I wish we would be more creative with our run packages. We can be a power run team but to be that in today's CFB you either need to out athlete everyone or be creative in the way you go about keeping the defence honest.Parks&RecAPP wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 10:41 amI was a freshman in 2005, so I had the joy of experiencing the Nat'l Championship runs and the Armanti years, so I do consider myself a little spoiled. Re: Up Next...UNC
We are about to see the same game situation as this past weekend, except from the opposite sideline. All the things we said about GW are cringy when a P-5 says them about us. Difference is (I hope) we haven't devolved into that A$$hole fanbase that sports the baby blue so I think there was some mutual respect in the GW game. They have a good coach and some serious talent, just spread thin. I really thing we can play UNC even for 2 or 3 quarters, the shortened game rule will help even things out. A couple breaks late in the game and...

Not sure it has been mentioned much, but with pressure and possible hard yds for RBs we may see how much of a mobile QB Joey is. Seems SC had a few decent runs from Rattler, but those 9 sacks...

Re: Up Next...UNC
Our lack of size and depth at nose is a concern , we don't have a guy that can eat up space .Can quickness overcome that ? And yes , GWs pass rush has to have UNC frothing at the mouth for Saturday .We have to keep them off balance , somehow.

Re: Up Next...UNC
Our NT aren’t asked to eat up space. They are asked to be quick and disrupt and create havoc with the OL blocking to make holes for the ILBs. I’m not sure what you saw, but Clark, Hopper and Kelly balled out on Saturday.

I believe Stonewall's point is if our NT isn't commanding a double team that makes everyone else's job more difficult. So everyone is right here.
