Appalachian had buit, arguably, a top 5 G5 program. Less than three years later Charlotte is all that stands between us and being the worst FBS program in the Carolinas. We are as likely to finish last in the Sun Belt East as we are to make a bowl game.

We are probably the 6th best team in the Carolinas this year. Don't confuse the word team with program. We are hitting a down when some other teams are hitting an up.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 13, 2022 10:16 amAppalachian had buit, arguably, a top 5 G5 program. Every team in the Carolinas (in better conferences) is bowl eligible except for us and and Charlotte. The funny thing is you seem to be arguing that we're 6th not 7th. We have dropped off dramatically.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 13, 2022 10:20 amWe are probably the 6th best team in the Carolinas this year. Don't confuse the word team with program. I'm not arguing with your take this season. However, you used the word Program vs. Team. One season does not equal to the value of a Program. We still have a significantly better program than Duke and Charlotte and our Program is on par or better than the remaining 4.
As I clearly stated, don't confuse the word Team with Program.

I agree. 2016-19, i think we had built a top five G5 program. Maybe 6 or 7, but arguably top 5. This years team is second worse in the Carolinas. That's a dramatic drop.

Re: By December 2019
What nonsense about being a bad program. As I've said in previous threads, take away a few plays or penalties during the season, and the record is 10-0!!!

I definitely didn't say we were bad progam. I will say Clark took over a very good G5 program and in three years has a team that may finish last in the SB East.

I agree with this. We are not that far off but I still don't like where we seem to be headed. I am not thrilled with what I am seeing. We were getting very disciplined players...this doesn't seem to be the case and as mentioned many times we seem to be "pushed around" and a step slow. To me that is recruiting, coaching, and strength program. These are all program issues and player issues but the player issue will only be fixed by program fixes. I don't know enough about football to be qualified to make this statement but it is probably easier to push a defensive lineman sideways than backwards. Our offense needs the latter. Our former offenses needed pushes sideways to creat lanes. Just my observations. On the defense we get no push. It is either player or strength issues. My guess is strength issues.
