If media markets matter, they are not. What drives the bus in this equation? For example. App and Marshall have similar FB back-round, what on earth do they bring as a Conf USA member? Boone is an incredible fan base, game atmosphere, but I get it's not a huge market...but App's true market is Charlotte and Raleigh with all their alumni there.
Media markets mattered in 1999. Now an App State fan living in Timbuktu can watch us at 2am in HD and soon 4K.
Brands and winning matter. Something Boise has both of.

One difference between us and ECU (and WCU) is that we have had a winning tradition since we started football in the late 1920s. App State could fall apart. That could have happened in FCS days but it never did. It could have happened when we first moved to FBS but it has not yet. That is not to say that it will not happen and we will have some down years in the future but that could happen had we stayed NAIA, or DII, or FCS. But we have a long tradition of winning. That is something that ECU and WCU never really had except for the odd year. For App the odd year is having a losing record and having two years in a row of losing has happened only twice in nearly a century. We have never had three years in a row with a losing record in football. Alabama can't say that. ECU has has stretches of 6 years with losing records on multiple occasions and having 4 year runs with losing records is about as much the norm as having multiple years with winning records. Re: Boise St to AAC?
I didn't think this was worth a new thread. But...I have often wondered if our coaches recruit talking about weather/Avg. temperatures in Boone. I think kids would "get it". Talking to a kid that is in the middle of summer practices in Charlotte or HotLanta, Sweating in high humidity 98 degree temperatures. Saying "At App today our guys are practicing in 78 degree no humidity, building their skills and strength. It is like practicing in Air Conditioning." If I was a kid in summer practices I would at least think about...Do I want to build muscle at ECU in 100percent humidity and 99 degrees or get the same strength in air conditioned like temperature? I would also throw in.... "you build more lung capacity in higher elevations. This will give you an advantage at NFL combines."
Not sure if the lung capacity is true but I think it could be proven scientifically. I know the temperature would be a game changer for me.

Regardless, ECU SUX and has not had a winning season in the AAC since the first year they moved to the AAC when Ruffin was there. Then the idiots fired him.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Mon Dec 28, 2020 3:55 pmYou bring this up often.NewApp wrote: ↑Sun Dec 27, 2020 4:20 pmAnd be ECU IIChamp24 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 25, 2020 9:17 amWe need to promote ourselves as a East Tennessee, Northwest Georgia, Western, Central and Southern North Carolina and Western Virginia market. Re: Boise St to AAC?
Is not the current AAC more of less the CUSA from the 90s and ECU has had some success against the same basic lineup of schools, just not consistent success. So it can happen but it is harder for it to be maintained year in and year out and it does not help that their history in football is not there either. There last few years is really more the norm for them.NewApp wrote: ↑Tue Dec 29, 2020 6:55 pmRegardless, ECU SUX and has not had a winning season in the AAC since the first year they moved to the AAC when Ruffin was there. Re: Boise St to AAC?
They have been in FBS a lot longer and playing better competion than we have. Too, their record is much worse in the AAC than in any other conference they have been a member of.

Re: Boise St to AAC?
ECU were losers in NAIA days as much now. Moving to AAC was not helpful but again it has not pushed them to be much more worse than they were decades ago, at least not in the sense they went from perennial contenders in their conference to bottom dwellers. When you said they sux you pretty much summed up
most of their football history.
