Or it means that the current DC at Misery is doing a good job so why move him out? Misery had a pretty decent defense this season.CharleyHustle wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 10:16 pmIf Drink doesn't take his DC, Roof, with him it certainly means he doesn't have a lot of confidence in him. Lots of App fans don't have much condidence in him either, me included. His coaching record has been spotty at best. If Roof doesn't get chosen to go to Columbia, Coach Clark needs to select the very best young DC he can find....one that bleeds Black and Gold just like he does. IMO, any coach Drink brought can be replaced by Coach Clark with an excellent football coach of his choosing!!

Re: Who stays, who goes?
Sorry but that's just wrong. Drink has agreed to keep certain Defensive coaches on staff as part of his negotiation with Missouri on the approach to building a staff. For all we know, he and Roof spoke before that decision was made and Roof declined. Please don't make some broad assumption to support your out-dated and disproved narrative. Yes...the D got off to a slow start this year and there was reason for concern. Roof made adjustments to his approach, including listening to the team leaders and others. The result was that our D played very well for the remainder of the season and saved us at least 3 games when the offense struggled. I would be happy for Roof to stay. If he doesn't then you're right....we will replace him with an excellent option.CharleyHustle wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2019 10:16 pmIf Drink doesn't take his DC, Roof, with him it certainly means he doesn't have a lot of confidence in him. Re: Who stays, who goes?
The "Fire Ted Roof/Release Ted Roof" narrative is getting tiresome and incredibly silly. This Coach Gave His All for this team, his players and this University. We are 12-1, Sun Belt Champs and Ranked #20!!! Drink hired a very good staff and we were fortunate to have Stewart, Harbison, Link, Washington, Riley AND Roof join us!!!
Keep Ted Roof and let him groom Gas for the job for whenever Ted chooses to leave.

Re: Who stays, who goes?
I willl admit I was on the fire Roof train even after he was hired. In fact I may have been the conductor. However, after watching this year I just dunno how much of it was on Roof. Definitely early in the season UNCC for example was on him. After that though it appeared Drink went in control of the entire game and forced us to play prevent. So I am not close enough to roof to know if his hands were tied or he should be else where. My one complaint this year was tackling. Way too many arm tackles and trying to strip the ball let too many guys get away from us. Outside of that I am so torn on roof. This coming from a guy who would have put a for sale sign in his yard and even emailed Doug saying I don’t think this is a good idea. Doug replied trust Drink. Haha I can laugh about all that now.

Re: Who stays, who goes?
I”m by no means an expert on Ted Roof but all indications are that he’s a good man and the players like him. I’m not saying that being a “players coach” is a reason to keep a coach or even always a good thing. Some of these “players coaches” are in my estimation a fad and they will have very short head coaching carriers. I’m talking about the guys who act more like fired up 19 year old kids than adults. Roof doesn’t fit that category. Back to the point, before you can coach good players, you have to have good players and good men can take average players and make them great. Based on what little I saw I think Ted Roof just may be the kind of man and coach who can help us get good players to Boone and turn some of those average guys into great players. And every successful G5 program needs those type of men.

Hearing that Evans is deciding to stay. He wants to come back for the special season. That is great to hear. I know some folks were in his ear and supposedly had him thinking he should leave early. I wonder if Clark being HC helped at all or he had already flipped the decision?

I wonder how much validity there was the rumor Evans was considering leaving...

Drinkwitz leaving may have saved our season next year, I've heard from multiple people that several players were on the fence with transfering after this season. With the Clark hire it seems like we will be keeping just about everyone

"Coach Ted Roof is the best Defensive Coordinator that we have had at App since I started here in 1988. "
Well you have followed the team longer than I (1998 for me) but I think it is hard to name someone the best after just one season - Nate Woody changed the entire defensive scheme and culture and set the ground work for the two who have followed him - I always thought that Wiley was the best I had seen at making half-time adjustments and we did win 3 National Championships with him as DC - If Roof remains at APP and picks up where he has left off I think things will be fine ---

I'd put Nate Woody and John Wiley above Roof, easily. And I became a Roof fan late in the season.

The tape doesn't lie on TD. He also got to play quite a bit at Indiana while he was there which says something.Appstate88 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 7:56 amI would like to see Roof stay and get to coach his son who transferred in this year.
If we managed to get Dale Jones back for ILB and retain Roof for OLB, we could have a nasty position group there.

John Wiley? Doesn't he run a 4-3? Give me $2,000 for things that aren't going to happen, Alex.

I think this is in response to all time DCs for App not pandering to get him back.

Roof, Hampton, Cobb, Jackson, Doublin...should be a special group of Linebackers next year like every year

Wiley ran the 3-4 Base defense at WCU before he was let go 2 weeks ago.

Let's not forget Brown, Harrington, Bird, and Heilig too. Definitely stacked at LB.Mikebibbyforthreeeee wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 1:55 pmRoof, Hampton, Cobb, Jackson, Doublin...should be a special group of Linebackers next year like every year

Re: Who stays, who goes?
He did run the 4-3 during most (if not all) of his time at App. Regardless of scheme, I’d be a hard pass on Wiley. There are, in my opinion, many, many better options out there.

Re: Who stays, who goes?
I know 2006 was a good year for App defense but I remember 2007 being a year that App won mostly in spite of the defense. Could be wrong on that.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 2:19 pmHe did run the 4-3 during most (if not all) of his time at App. Regardless of scheme, I’d be a hard pass on Wiley. Hey - we aren't discussing him coming back - the original statement was that Roof was the best DC at APP since 1989BeauFoster wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2019 2:19 pmHe did run the 4-3 during most (if not all) of his time at App. Regardless of scheme, I’d be a hard pass on Wiley.
