Yeah, good call out. That’s why I put special teams as the #1 observation in my earlier post. Special Teams is going to play a big role in the outcome of this game.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 1:22 pm14 point of Ga Southern’s total came from short fields due to muffed punts.appstatealum wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 11:00 amThey are being overrated by keeping the MissSt game close. Miss State was overrated from the get go this season and from film I watched on that game last night, Miss State was sloppy and had no fluidity to their playcalling. It was like they didn’t even gameplan for Louisiana and it showed in their performance. I’m not downplaying Louisiana, but there is nothing they have done this season that makes me think they are something to be feared. Georgia Southern threw the ball 12 times and still scored 24 points. I know our defense raises a lot of red flags, but any team that plays us better realize that they are going to have to score 40+ in hopes of winning.

The team tends to enjoy proving people wrong.

UL's punt returner seems like a liability for themAppSt94 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 1:22 pm14 point of Ga Southern’s total came from short fields due to muffed punts.appstatealum wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 11:00 amThey are being overrated by keeping the MissSt game close. How does one come up with prediction percentages on a mythological playoff?
He could have made the article simple and sweet. It appears it's Boise v the AAC (minus ECU) for his hypothetical G5 National Championship!

They are ranked 70th in total defense and we are 67 (no Roof comments) so at worst this is a shootout. I will go with us making at least one special teams play that creates an extra possession. Whoever wins the turnover and special teams battle wins.

ESPN's FPI ranks 21st out of 58 in picking games correctly straight up and 54th ATS. Their ATS % is at 45.299% for 2019 which is abysmal.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 10:47 amI read that earlier, and instantly realized that the entirety of the authors' knowledge and research consisted of looking at the teams' FPI ratings. This is what happens when a national outlet has people writing about a subject they don't cover regularly.
If you want accurate spread predictions AND straight up you need to use Sagarin's Golden Mean. SGM is at 78.661% SU and 56.838% against the spread. Roundtable is at 59.375% against the spread but I'm pretty sure it's behind a paywall.
Sagarin has App as a 2.3 point favorite. Sagarin Golden Mean has App as a 4.78 point favorite. Likely to go up after Georgia Southern's abysmal showing last night.

I’m not gonna scoff until we win. Because hell, they may be right.

But we are on the same level. Even if we lose, we have showed over the past 5 seasons or so, we are better. They haven’t ascended to our level yet, in my opinion

Re: App State "not quite on the same level" as the Cajuns
I didn't take the statement as a program reference but rather at look at this season. That might invoke the same reaction but I didn't see it as a failure to recognize our short history with UL.
Re: App State "not quite on the same level" as the Cajuns
"the same level" is the key phrase, regardless of who is better this year. Would he say that Clemson is not quite on the same level as Alabama because the numbers are not in their favor right now. (rhetorical) Poor sports journalism but I'm so glad he put it out there.

Re: App State "not quite on the same level" as the Cajuns
It was definitely a reference to this year only. But there’s no basis to make such a definitive statement based on this year.
Again, it was a poorly researched and written article.
