This weather delay is definitely the result of us discussing being top 25.

We not only have to win all of our games but we have to win be a respectable margin or we fall, and we need UNC and South Carolina to play fairly well. Even if we are 12-0 if those two teams don't at least make a bowl game the best we can do is 24-27 range.
Dude we finished in the 24-27 range last year at 11-2 with zero P5 wins. Where do you come up with this stuff?
Go back and look at the week we got ranked last year. We had a lot of help. Did you know we had less points in the AP poll that week than any team who was ranked all year long? That was because teams were losing left and right around us.

SMU passed us in just one week this year because they beat a ranked team.

My point is that we need help to get ranked. We don't move into the top 25 or 26-28 range unless we have a lot of help because we lack top 25 caliber opponents on our schedule.

We really need UNC to win today or at least win the ACC Coastal Division and South Carolina to be a bowl team for us to have people vote us in the top 20 regularly. Go look at all of our votes in the AP poll this week. Everyone voted us 23-25 range. To have a strong ranking you need to be ranked by everyone and have some vote you in the top 20. Over half the voters did not even vote for us.
Teams ahead of us will always lose. If we keep winning, we’ll keep moving up. To say we’d be on the fringe of the top 25 at 12-0 is just silly.

Go back and look at Western Michigan’s NY6 season. Beat a couple meh P5s and ran the table in a weak MAC. They were ranked I believe in the top 10 heading into their bowl. Very similar case to us IF we keep winning.

With most games done, I’d guess we make modest gains this week - probably a few points. Hopefully we get more help next week while we’re idle.

Well, letting teams score this many points against us is really watering down how good we actually are. For me, this CCU game, the Carolina game and the Charlotte game never seemed in doubt. But the final scores indicate that teams were hanging with us. Unfortunately, AP writers aren't watching our games, so these box scores are not going to play in our favor.

Go listen to some of the AP voters talking about us against UNC. They think the SBC is the worst league, even though we aren't. When I say fringe top 25 we would be 23-25 range. Teams in RV who beat a ranked team will leapfrog us. Voters will only move us up so far. If a ranked team loses to a RV team and we are 25 I bet that RV team passes us. Voters simply do not respect the SBC like they should. We better hope everyone outside of the top 15 has 3 losses because everyone knows a 2-loss SEC, ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, or Pac-12 will be ranked ahead of us for sure.

I don't think voters will give us a great push with our defense giving up so much anyway. With our defense like it is we better hope ZT stays healthy or we will lose a few games and this won't even matter. Roof is going to cost us if we aren't careful. 35+ points to CCU is just not acceptable and I think Louisiana could put up more. They have great runners and I'm fearful this will be a 52-45 type shootout.

I don't think we'll be ranked this week, but we'll be in the 26-30 range.

The Louisiana game, like last year, could be the breakthrough, if we win. It's on ESPN2, no other competition, only other sporting event going on is the Dodgers playoff game.

With our defense playing like it has I doubt we get in with a simple win against Louisiana. If we improve heavily and win by double digits then perhaps but we would still need help.

No shot we are ranked this week. You think we could hit 26? We should pick up some votes but I'm thinking 1-15 votes in each poll and we move up 1-2 spots in them. Arizona State is behind us in RV but they will pass us since they just beat another ranked team. My guess is 29-30 in the polls. Without say 4-5 teams in the 22-27 range going down next week we will still need help but my guess is South Alabama week is the one we break in.

Regardless, if we lose against Louisiana everyone will have wasted all this time. We don't need to jinx ourselves. We have no quality wins in the eyes of the voters coming up until South Carolina. All that matters now is #BeatLouisiana #1-0

Winning each week likely moves us up 2-3 spots so a win against a very good ULL team likely gets us ranked.

ESPN FPI gives App a 36% chance in the game.

Depends on what happens with other teams. Again, all we need to do is win. No reason to worry about it. We lose to Louisiana and we can forget a ranking for at least 7 weeks. I'm scared of Louisiana. I have always feared that game and Troy as much as the P5 teams. We play them both during the week and they are revenge games for those teams. We better make adjustments or else we could lose for sure. I usually am big on looking good when we win but I will be glad to just get out of Louisiana with a 1 point win if that's the case.

So ESPN just proved that it’s the style points that count not the win. Palmer moved Clemson to number 2 because they they’re just not as dominant as last year. What the what? With that kind of thinking teams that just win and beat whomever they play will never get ranked.

Not sure that is really fair. Keep in mind I HATE how much influence ESPN has, but nothing I have seen so far this year makes me think Clemson is the best team (by performance) this season.

They’re not entitled to stay #1 just because they started the season there. If he feels another team looks better a month into the season, it makes complete sense to rank them accordingly.

If a team a 2 or 3 is playing much better then sure but to be the man you got to beat the man. Clemson has yet to be beaten and a smart voter knows that this could be a flash in the pan. UNC was sky high after we beat them. In football, you will have close games. If they had lost I would say drop them 5-7 spots for sure. I would 100% drop Clemson several spots if they don't look good in their next couple games. They are off on Saturday and will be chomping at the bit. If they are the best team they will lay the smack down against FSU and Louisville after hearing all the doubts for more than a week.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/rankings

Picked up 1 vote in coaches poll. As I said before, we have done nothing to move the needle in the eyes of voters, as I said. If we get the same type of W-L effort from those teams just behind us and ahead of us over the next 2 weeks I bet it will take 8-0 to get us in there. I think if we lose one game we will lose all of our votes. It is likely going to take a double digit win at Louisiana and then beat ULM pretty good along with 5-6 teams in the 22-30 range to lose for us to get in the top 25.

This is why I keep preaching lets just worry about winning. Regardless of what happens if we get to 8-0 or 9-0 we will be ranked but to get so beforehand we will need help.

If we dont get pantsed by ULaLa next week, I'll be pleased. Hopefully roof is studying up and taking input from his assistants.
