Time management

Unread post by 3rd » Sat Nov 25, 2017 3:32 pm

I wanna hear the pathetic reasoning for Satterfields time management at the end of the first half. (He has done this many times) We lose games because when we have chances to gain leads and put teams away we don’t. Anyone who has ever coached at any level or sport knows that the longer you let a team hang around you give them hope and hope late in games leads to adrenaline and legs on a tired team arnt so heavy when they have hope.

It was just weird. We ran plays to kill the clock by called timeouts to stop it. I’m fine either killing the clock to get to half or taking a chance, but not both.

Can’t figure it out either. Run plays that have no chance of going anywhere and then start burning timeouts with 13 seconds left???

I’m not a college coach nor am I an arm chair QB but man we just do not have any creativity on offense. No pedal to the metal type mentality when we have the lead. I totally guessed what we were going to do on that 1st Qtr goaline series.

*As I type this they drive down for a TD within two minutes of the opening 2nd half drive. (Shrugs shoulders....this season has definitely kept the fans on their toes!)

Dude... hop off.

There are plenty of people that are just as confused about this. This is a message board to discuss App State sports everything isn’t rah rah App is the best team in the universe. We had a chance to get points before the half and didn’t even though we have a senior QB and 2 timeouts plus time stopping after first downs and a kicker who has a legit shot at hitting 50+.

And I give credit where credit is due.... Satt had this team ready after half time. That is awesome adjustment from other games this season.

Sometimes it’s nice to let negative threads run their course then comment. Kicking tail today. Would be nice to eliminate the personal fouls

To be fair the last baseball swing penalty was ridiculous. Never seen that called before.

Got a kicker, now we need a punter? I get the rugby thing on a short field, but you need to be able to boom it out of your own end zone.

Yea let the kids have fun as long as it’s not in the other teams face and doesn’t get to long and crazy.

Someone is sensitive about baseball references.

Just glad he didn’t lift his leg like a dog.

I don't want to tee anybody off or hurt feelings, but Todd, I agree with you 110%. Sure mistakes were made and things could have been done differently and there are different strategies various coaches and fans would have done differently, but Geez, we won by 21 points to a team which may be almost as good as we are. Some of us had some real fears about not having a good game by being rusty from the lay-off.

Too, we may have shown Charlie Cobb that he made a mistake in leaving our fine program (that he himself helped build). He may feel he likes where he is, but by gosh, he should realize again that there is no place like Boone.

No room for theatrics when you're trying to win a game. No reason to fire the opposition up just to show your butt on the field. It may have been a petty call, but we deserved it. It could have made a difference in the call.

Run plays to see if they work so you know when you face the next opponent, rather than taking a chance on plays first time in game situations when you need them. Now we know for sure not to use them in critical situations or the need to work out the wrinkles. Satterfield and Co. know what they are doing. Second guessing is fun, but give the guy a little credit.

It was a weak call. If a guy stands over a player or does that in someone’s face that’s different. Barely did anything really. As for picking apart coaching. For crying out loud we won and we have 2 games left. Just win 2 more - 9 wins is great any year.

I really don't know why many on this board get so upset with the concept that Satt has shown really poor 2 minute clock management on many occasions and it has cost us games. It doesn't mean he isn't a good coach or that we don't like him, it just means that he has proven once again that he needs to work on his 2 minute clock management. We won this game and that is great, but it has cost us before and if he doesn't improve that aspect of his coaching, it may very well cost us again.

I know, but like I said, there's no point in firing up an opposing player or team as well as risking getting a penalty. Hand or toss the ball to a ref or run back to your comrades and celebrate, or even better, wait until after the game and celebrate all the good things at once. It's great to be winners, but it's even greater to win as well as show superb sportsmanship at the same time.
