Every team has to deal with injuries, but injuries aren't playing cards. They are not distributed in equal numbers and the hands each team is dealt can range from pretty good to brutal. I would put our current hand in the latter category.

Re: Injuries
Was thinking about it today and actually started mentally tallying the guys who are out who were projected starters/major contributors before the year:
Meadors
Evans
Moore
Upshaw
Adams
Edge-Campbell
Stringer
Thomas
Plus I'm not sure which other non-starters are out since we don't issue an injury report.

Re: Injuries
This is certainly a fine example of why sweeping our Belt schedule was never going to be an easy task. I still hope we can cobble together enough talent to do it, but that remains to be seen. I think we grew accustomed to our teams making it look easy. This season so far has probably been more realistic. Our days of simply mowing down SBC members may not return as soon as we wish.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2017 9:20 pmWas thinking about it today and actually started mentally tallying the guys who are out who were projected starters/major contributors before the year:

Re: Injuries
Thanks for listing this. Just curious what people's expectations would have been for the season, back in August if they knew that we wouldn't have Meadors, Evans, Adams, and less than 100% RB tandem of Moore and Upshaw. For me I would have changed my expectations from 11-2 to probably 8-5.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2017 9:20 pmWas thinking about it today and actually started mentally tallying the guys who are out who were projected starters/major contributors before the year:

Re: Injuries
I understand people being frustrated but I don't understand people giving up on this team. It's been a frustrating season, but I've seen a lot of young talent step up and show glimpses of the future that give me hope. Even this past Saturday, I saw a third string RB rush for over 100 yards while splitting carries with a fourth string RB in a game that was ultimately decided by mistakes...not by lack of effort.
I agree that we can't take ANYBODY lightly. I hated losing to a 1-6 UMass Saturday, but I also hated losing to Wofford and GS in 2007 but people still sing the praises of that team. For the record, I think I hated those 2007 losses worse but that's just me.
Hope our guys heal up and are able to play. Let's finish strong.

Re: Injuries
Seems like ULM is worse off than we are in the injury department.

Re: Injuries
Agree 100%. The bright side here is that these young guys are getting invaluable real-game reps that the coaches will be able to use actual game film to teach them from. We can still win the conference championship (which is the primary goal) and still win our 3rd straight bowl game which would be awesome. Very few teams go undefeated.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2017 8:20 amI understand people being frustrated but I don't understand people giving up on this team. Re: Injuries
Who has been advocating trading places with Chapel Hill or Greenville? I must have missed that thread. All I have ever seen on this board is we are glad we aren't them.

Ees a joke! Chapel Hill is 1-8 and Greenville is 2-6. Must have serious injuries in both places. Lighten up Francis!

Re: Injuries
In today's Greensboro News & Record, looks like Wake is now dealing with the injury bug. They've lost Dortch for the season.

Re: Injuries
ULM is salivating at the opportunity to stifle our run game with our missing RBs and lineman, Taylor Lamb is licking his chops wanting to carve up their secondary with pretty much all their starting corners and safeties out ...hapapp wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2017 8:44 amSeems like ULM is worse off than we are in the injury department.

An acquaintance of mine who is an EZU grad and fan says the the Pyrites are playing mostly freshmen and sophomores this year. That's his excuse anyway when I said they shouldn't have fired Ruffin. Lots of Luck to the Pyrites and all of it bad..

Re: Injuries
The offensive line is a problem but it's not because of health. Four of the starters have played in each game as I recall, the left guard being the exception and that position has been split by two players ,one of which admittedly has been gimpy as of late.Next year we lose our two best .Perhaps we have some good replacements in waiting .Perhaps. I do know that if you can't block you can't win no matter who your backs are .Penalties along the line of scrimmage are often the result of poor fundamentals .We have had our share. My belief is that to be consistent you have to win up front on both sides of the ball. Defensively we show that ability, plus we are rotating seven to nine guys a game. The o line troubles me both immediately and long term.

Re: Injuries
I have always said one of our biggest concerns needs to be the offensive and defensive lines. QBs, Running Backs, and Receivers get all the glory, but games are won and lost on the line. Emmitt Smith was a great running back, but he would have been nothing without the great Oline he had in front of him. I would love to see us put more emphasis on our line play. I hope we have some good lineman waiting to play, but I feel that if they were there, they would be on the field right now. The penalties that we are getting every game needs to be addressed also. Ill timed penalties cost us dearly in the Wake game.Stonewall wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2017 3:01 pmThe offensive line is a problem but it's not because of health.
