Georgia, Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson top 1st CFP rankings

Unread post by Rick83 » Wed Nov 01, 2017 10:19 am

No shame in losing to this year's UGA team:

"Georgia and Alabama, Southeastern Conference rivals, are both 8-0 and have been dominating their competition. The Bulldogs' one close game was at Notre Dame in September, a 20-19 victory."

Kind of like when we lost to Clemson a couple years ago - we knew they were good at the time, but didn't know just how good until later.

Next year it'll probably be Penn State with our luck...

Yeah unfortunately Penn State's already pretty loaded. Wish we could have caught them about three years earlier.

Pretty soon teams are going to say, "Hey, we've been down for a few years. Let's schedule App State so we can get back to the top of P5-ville." It's been uncanny how that's worked against us recently. Dumb luck will have even the Tarheels and ECU at the top of their games by the time we play them.

We had a pretty good run of catching a lot of traditional powers in 8-5 type seasons or worse for a while there (LSU, Florida, Georgia, Michigan). Miami and Tennessee last year were about par for the course for those programs.

But of course, we have a narrative going, so people don't remember those as much. ;)

I'm sure these big time games are necessary. But I can't forget last year when the big Miami guy jumped on Marcus as he was headed to the end zone. I don't think he ever recovered. Is it worth it?

We played the Bulldogs closer than anyone but the Irish thus far. That includes 5 SEC opponents where GAs winning margin was 28 points or more.

Our players can get hurt playing anybody in FBS. I guess UGA will not want to play us again because Eason got hurt playing big bad App State. If we want to get to NY6 and own the SB then we have to be able to play with top tier teams. We can't avoid scheduling great teams because we are afraid to get hurt. We will never become an elite team using that logic.

Glad somebody else said it. That was an odd post.

Also Marcus rushed for >700 yards the last six games of the season, so I think he recovered OK.
