That's kind of been my impression too, though I could be wrong. Have a hard time picturing him in the hand-shaking/donor flattering/recruit wooing aspects of a HC job. That said, I'd certainly expect him to be a candidate whenever Satt leaves if he wants to be.

His team is winning 65-0 on ESPN2 right now.

Funny you say that because I was wondering if Withers would be a prospect based on this game's result.

With that said, I think SS will be back next year, thankfully.

Mike Houston is the head coach at JMU.

I know, but Withers built this JMU resurgence. That was my point.

We're about to find out how good of a program builder both Withers and Elliott are. I do like Mike Houston though. He's made a positive mark at every one of his coaching stops and he is a guy with ties to western NC.

Not sure how much credit he gets for that. They got better when he was there, but they also got a lot better when he left.

Is he running the triple option at JMU like he did at some of the other places he's coached at? If so, vom.

Got to go with EHA on this. Houston is a winner and just as I will take nothing away from Wither's accomplishments at JMU, you can not credit him for Houston's success. Perhaps JMU should get some credit for making back to back good coaching decisions.

No, he is not. His QB has thrown for over 600 yards in their last two games.

JMU has been the 2nd highest scoring team in FCS this year. looks like Houston knows how to adjust to the personnel that he has inherited on the offense. he likely ran the TO at his previous stops out of necessity

Nothing against Woody as he would be on my shortlist, but Houston made a mistake IMO in Applewhite.

It's a serious question. I can only think of Freeze and Malzahn and they both coached at Ole Miss and Auburn respectively. I don't think Satts path to a P5 job is by staying in the SBC unless he plans on running off a handful of outright conference championships in a row ala Chris Peterson. Obviously I don't want Satt to leave but if he wants a P5 job down the line and is offered the UC job....he should take it.

How many previous Sun Belt coaches (including Freeze and Malzahn) had multiple double digit wins seasons? Bowl win next weekend gives Satt back to back 10+ win seasons.

First time for everything....
So put yourself in a coaches shoes. Do you want to try to get a promotion by taking the "first time for everything" approach? Or go to a league where 4 coaches in 2 years have been called up to the Big Leagues and you're getting paid 3-4x as much?

How many have also been fired or forced to resign as well from that same conference, including the last coach at Cincy? Putting myself in those shoes I'd look at all of the variables, not just the money factor you've only noted. Being successful at your current school where also you have history (alum / former player / former coach), I'd be more inclined to wait for THE opportunity that moves the needle. As I've mentioned before in this thread, somewhere like Houston, USF, or UCF would move the needle within G5. Otherwise, I'd be shocked his name doesn't come up in similar fashion next year with P5 schools with another season like this one.
Butch Jones, Brian Kelly, Mark Dantonio. I'd say they landed pretty good gigs after using UC as a launching pad. And I would hope he wouldn't go into the situation with the mindset he was going to be "fired or forced to resign". UC is just as good a job as Houston, USF, and UCF. Recent history has shown if you succeed at UC (and plenty have) you can get yourself a top notch P5 job.
Satt has a longer leash at this point at App where he can afford to wait for THE opportunity. To think he would get more than 3 years at Cincy to replacate the same success he's had at App is short sided. My point is he doesn't need to make a move just for money, he can wait for the best opportunity and I think that translates to a P5 school that would pay more than Cincy in the end. Clearly App isn't going to be forcing his hand anytime soon.

I hear you. None of my points were about the money, though. The simple fact is UC is a better launching spot for "THE opportunity" that Satt is probably looking for than App is. Like I said in previous posts, it's just highly unlikely for a coach to get a blue chip job by just winning at a Sun Belt program. Luckily this thread is moot at this point.

Satt has had a ten (11, actually) win season at a Sun Belt program, and with a win in Montgomery, can win in double figures again. App is the only SBC program to have a double digit win season (let alone twice, by this time next week). That will resonate among P5 programs needing a coach. We aren't out of the woods, yet, but it appears we've dodged having to go into our bowl with a coaching change. One day at a time.

Read where UC ran a simulation of top candidates using UC's roster to see who would have best posibility of producing winner ( F was at 80% and got the job). Did not mention who or what the others were.
