We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. Almost seems like they have agreed to terms with someone (hopefully Fickell) and just need to go through the process. Only caveat I see is they are also looking for a new president, so this could be a meeting about that person as well...

So put yourself in a coaches shoes. Do you want to try to get a promotion by taking the "first time for everything" approach? Or go to a league where 4 coaches in 2 years have been called up to the Big Leagues and you're getting paid 3-4x as much?ASUGoose wrote:Yosef10 wrote:For those saying Satt should just hold out for a P5 job....can you name me a coach that has been plucked from the SBC for a P5 job at a school they have not previously coached at? It's a serious question. I can only think of Freeze and Malzahn and they both coached at Ole Miss and Auburn respectively. I don't think Satts path to a P5 job is by staying in the SBC unless he plans on running off a handful of outright conference championships in a row ala Chris Peterson. Obviously I don't want Satt to leave but if he wants a P5 job down the line and is offered the UC job....he should take it.
How many previous Sun Belt coaches (including Freeze and Malzahn) had multiple double digit wins seasons? Bowl win next weekend gives Satt back to back 10+ win seasons.

We keep asking similar questions in different ways...I think we all get it. I don't blame satt, but he can't blame us for being upset with him. I'm sure this, if true, stings more because he is one of our own. And if he did leave, the timing would be terrible for us. Call me selfish, but I worry more about our program than how someone feels who is "underpaid " making half a mill/year.Yosef10 wrote:So put yourself in a coaches shoes. ...and so it starts...this is why I hate this thread. Talking about another person's career, income, and family is none of our business. Only thing that comes from this is hurt feelings and frustration.

Re: Satterfield to Cincinnati?
Look at it this way - assuming Satt doesn't view himself as an App lifer, the ultimate goal probably isn't either Cincinnati or a low-level P5; it's a high-level (i.e., top 20) P5. So the question becomes, what's the best route to get there?
Is it somewhere like Cincy, where the previous coach actually left a Big 12 job to go there, and the three before him each went on to top 20 P5 programs? Or is it a lower-tier P5, where the odds of winning are stacked against you because you're competing directly against those top-tier programs?

Thanks, good info.T-Dog wrote:Assistant pay was just published by USA Today.
That's a good deal healthier than just two years ago.
Here's App compared to the rest of the SBC.
IIRC, wasn't Justin Stepp only making $50,000 when he left for SMU?

Re: Satterfield to Cincinnati?
From the comments I've read we don't "all get it". I dont see how this timing would be anymore "terrible" than a coaching change in any other year. I also could've missed it but I didn't see anyone saying he was "underpaid" but I know for a fact everyone on this board would take the job offering them 4x their current salary. Like I said don't wanna lose Satt but I'm not gonna get all bent out of shape over a coach getting a better job and no, I couldn't blame him for doing so.boonetown1 wrote:We keep asking similar questions in different ways...I think we all get it. If I were giving up living in Boone and leaving my alma mater to have to live in Cincinnati, I would probably stay put.Yosef10 wrote:From the comments I've read we don't "all get it". I don't know what I would do... but 3-4 years at $2 million would provide a nice mutual fund income.NewApp wrote:If I were giving up living in Boone and leaving my alma mater to have to live in Cincinnati, I would probably stay put.Yosef10 wrote:From the comments I've read we don't "all get it". Another interesting scenario of coaches and money is in Coastal's coach. Google that fella.

I think the better question is how many would live in Boone if you had a job that actually paid somethingEastHallApp wrote:Out of curiosity, how many people posting here still live in Boone?

Re: Satterfield to Cincinnati?
As fans there are a few things we can actually do to improve App's ability to keep (& attract) coaches:
1) buy season tickets (football, basketball, baseball)
2) donate to the Yosef club (& increase your donations as much as you can even if it's only an extra $20)
3) go to away games, inclduding repeat trips to the same bowl game
4) bring new fans to games in order to expand the fan base
5) wear app gear - so sponsors see us as a specific demographic for their business.
If you're not doing these things, you're not helping, you're just complaining. And nobody likes complainers.

How many have also been fired or forced to resign as well from that same conference, including the last coach at Cincy? Putting myself in those shoes I'd look at all of the variables, not just the money factor you've only noted. Being successful at your current school where also you have history (alum / former player / former coach), I'd be more inclined to wait for THE opportunity that moves the needle. As I've mentioned before in this thread, somewhere like Houston, USF, or UCF would move the needle within G5. Otherwise, I'd be shocked his name doesn't come up in similar fashion next year with P5 schools with another season like this one.
