APP vs TROY pick
Early line is a PICK.

This game will be tough, I like our experience to pull through, because we've been here and done that in these games. Defense is great this year and DEFENSE wins championships. Troy is an upstart this year. App in a tight game.

Re: APP vs TROY pick
Does PICK mean even money, no points given or taken?
The Troy message board notes that one of those computer rankings Massey said App 24 - 21.
I think App by 3 is about right.
I also agree with Black that Troy is an upstart, which to me means that App has more winning experience & tradition.
Wish I could be there.

Re: APP vs TROY pick
This game is going to be an epic defensive matchup. In watching Troy, specifically their QB, our style of pass coverage might be a strength. Their QB tends to have one speed on his throws, hard. He doesn't have very good touch. If we can disrupt the timing then that might lead to some late throws that are tipped and intercepted.

Re: APP vs TROY pick
Most will think this is delusional, but traditional statistical comparisons won't work for this. Based off on my intuition and my score predictions for the past two weeks (App 34 Southern 13, App 37 Texas St 6) I'm calling it at App 34 Troy 17.

Troy is a different animal than anyone we've faced except Miami.........We must force the QB to make bad decisions which has been rare for him this year.

We also must hit the QB. That's how you can get into their heads. I expect Woody to have an excellent game plan this week.Rekdiver wrote:Troy is a different animal than anyone we've faced except Miami.........We must force the QB to make bad decisions which has been rare for him this year.

Re: APP vs TROY pick
I'm not sure we'll get much pressure on their QB (only two sacks all year). If we can get up early, something we've not done of SBC teams not named Texas St., we can rush three and drop eight (switching up LB and DEs randomly). I predict we give up a lot of passing yards in between the 20's.

Re: APP vs TROY pick
I just believe that App is a different animal. If we play Miami again I can't help but feel it's way different. No way they do that again. Our defense wasn't that bad and is on a different level now. I'll reserve a prediction for the regular thread but I just see us with a few new wrinkles on offense and a swarming defensive effort not even seen in the past weeks.

Re: APP vs TROY pick
I like the way you think. From what I've seen develop over the weeks since Miami is our adjustment to the bubble screen. Miami ate us up with that but we seem to snuff it out now for the most part. Our secondary is playing extremely confident now and Duck, well folks avoid his island. Looking forward to a good game.EastHallApp wrote:We're also a different animal than anyone they've faced except Clemson.Rekdiver wrote:Troy is a different animal than anyone we've faced except Miami.........We must force the QB to make bad decisions which has been rare for him this year.

Can you even imagine if we had him on one side and Gibbs on the other? One of the great what ifs.bigdaddyg wrote:I like the way you think. Hopeful this will be a reality in 2017. With a year under ducks belt, a hopeful return of Gibbs and a stock of young backups our secondary could be scary good.MtnMan09 wrote:Can you even imagine if we had him on one side and Gibbs on the other? Our biggest hole next year is gray, but I've heard great things about our young safeties.

Hopefully the "hole" will be like the Ronald Blair hole. Looks like we have filled that just fine.boonetown1 wrote:Hopeful this will be a reality in 2017. Re: APP vs TROY pick
I think Nate will have an answer for Troy's offense but i agree, they'll get a lot of yards between the 20s and settle for field goals. We'll establish the run with Moore & Cox and if Meadors is double teamed then somebody else has got to get open. That Duck is a Hawk...ball hawk that is...we've got 3 more years to watch him...love it. We'll see how Troy does against the Legion of Boone and their "No Fly Zone."

Re: APP vs TROY pick
Points to be made:
-We won't hit Silvers often so the line will need to get in to the passing lanes and go vertical.
-The defensive backfield can't bite on the run action by receivers as they run option routes that allow the receiver to make the read.
-Sit back and make Troy drive the length of the field, don't bite on the double move.
-Play tight coverage over the top as Troy will try to go deep and Silvers will overthrow his receivers from time to time.
-Keep the second level clean so they can make plays in the backfield in the run game. This will be extremely important in the fourth quarter when Chunn usually takes the game over for Troy.

Re: APP vs TROY pick
We have to play a complete game, not get complacent in the (unlikely) event we get a good lead and just not let up. We've been improving since Miami and Akron and the last two games have shown it. Outside of the bowl game this IS the game of the year now, so everyone needs to be focused.
And in the event we're not, we all need to become Arkansas State fans. Because Troy has both them and GASO in the next three weeks so even if we lose, we have a chance of the SBC title if one of the other conference heavyweights can take them down. But the better idea is to beat them, and then feed a beaten-to-heck Trojans team to the Red Wolves and get them 2 conference losses.

Re: APP vs TROY pick
We actually need Troy to beat the Red Wolves after we beat them. The Wolves need a loss and APP would still have head to head over Troy should the Apps slip in the last two.

Re: APP vs TROY pick
Scares me either way that Troy is beat up/tired after our game and Ark St beats them (even though Ark St doesn't look anywhere close to either of our teams). Thursday game helps Ark St a lot.
