Whichever matches us up with the highest profile opponent. Western Michigan? Would love to play and beat a ranked team no matter where or when.

reading back thru all that, much of this is relevant again this year. Hoping to win out for N.O. bowl. Think we would travel ok to that one, our crowd would sound good in the dome.9Steelman wrote:Cure Bowl Orlando or RL Carriers NO my best two choices. (Cannot attend Dec 23 Mobile)
GoDollar is a tough date to make.

I think I remember reading something along the lines that all Sun Belt bowl payouts go directly to the conference and they appropriate the money out to the bowl participants to offset the travel costs. Any additional leftover money is distributed equally to the football playing programs. Anyone feel free to correct me.HighlandsApp wrote:How does Sun Belt handle the bowl money for the teams?
Sun Belt Bowl Payouts:
Cure - $1.35m
Dollar General - $750k
NO - $500k
Camellia - $100k
Total: $2.7m

Well, if there is no financial rewards and we get the same from whichever, then the Camellia was a nice easy trip.moonshine wrote:I think I remember reading something along the lines that all Sun Belt bowl payouts go directly to the conference and they appropriate the money out to the bowl participants to offset the travel costs. New Orleans gets first pick, but they do not have to pick the conference champ.B30020 wrote:New Orleans, that means we win the conference.

Cure bowl means we botch the rest of the season and finish with 6 wins; didn't they get LAST pick last year?

Yes, they get fourth pick, but no, that doesn't necessarily mean they get they fourth place team.sixtoes9134 wrote:Cure bowl means we botch the rest of the season and finish with 6 wins; didn't they get LAST pick last year?
Easy to envision, for example, stAte to NOLA and Troy/USA to the two Alabama bowls, then us to Orlando.

If we win the conference - we best get New Orleans. Bowl with priority picks are likely to pick those with better records first, which is why Orlando ended up with Georgia State last year and as far as the money goes it gets evenly distributed to the conference, so that piece is not relevant.

Any one of the 40+ Bowls will suit me just fine as I'll be watching them enthusiastically from the comfort of my cozy living room with the thermostat set on a "Florida" temperature.

Camellia Bowl was a top notch experience.NewApp wrote:Any one of the 40+ Bowls will suit me just fine as I'll be watching them enthusiastically from the comfort of my cozy living room with the thermostat set on a "Florida" temperature.
I will be there no matter where it is.

I felt that about the three National Championship games.sixtoes9134 wrote:Camellia Bowl was a top notch experience.NewApp wrote:Any one of the 40+ Bowls will suit me just fine as I'll be watching them enthusiastically from the comfort of my cozy living room with the thermostat set on a "Florida" temperature.

FIFY. This is all driven by money. There is a reason ULL went to the NO Bowl 4 straight years, while only winning the conference once during that span.sixtoes9134 wrote:Bowl with priority picks are likely to pick those who will make them the most money first.
We could be chosen by NO. BUT that means they have determined that that choice will make them the most money, not because we have the best record.

Payouts are pooled and distributed equally, so the statement that we come out the same whichever bowl we go to is correct.
One thing that I haven't seen mentioned much is that a big thing about bowls is EXPOSURE. We are much better off going to NO, Mobile, or Montgomery since those are on ESPN. CURE is on CBS Sports Network, and Arizona is on ASN and campusinsiders.com.

I enjoyed the Camellia Bowl. Montgomery was an easy drive. It doesn't interfere with Christmas plans. It's a big deal to the locals. And it's on ESPN. Unless it has changed the Cure Bowl was on a sports network that isn't in millions of homes. If Cure is on ESPN or ESPN2 it would be fine.

The Cure Bowl will also be an after thought in the city of Orlando so I don't think the experience would be as good as it was last year where Montgomery went out of their way to host us. If people want to go to Disney they can do that any time throughout the year.wncapp78 wrote:I enjoyed the Camellia Bowl. Montgomery was an easy drive. It doesn't interfere with Christmas plans.
