Special Teams

I understand that the Vols have excellent kickoff and punt return guys. I know we have been preparing for them; we have to execute and prevent any long returns and/or scores.

Our kickoff coverage last year was a vast improvement over 2014. I expect the coaches have the guys prepared.

Jaquil Capel. Mark it down. He will do something special tonight.

That would indeed be "special" if our return teams can turn the tables on UT and create some excitement of our own tonight. Our return games (punt and kickoff) have been average, at best, recently. Looking forward to seeing how the new personnel fares...

I'm really mad at myself right now, I've somehow gone from accepting that we were going to lose by 3+ scores to being recklessly optimistic that we will win this damn game. Go APP!

There was a couple of decades where APP led the nation in kickoffs returned for TDs. Hopefully that is a stat we are over.

Let's hope our kickoff coverage is sound. Everyone on the Vols board thinks they will take the opening kickoff for 6

Most of us don't expect it, but he can take any one he catches to the Checkerboards. Honestly better to kick it out of bounds. Led the nation last year in yards per return. He is a special player with great vision, a good burst, great balance and nobody caught him from behind all year last year.

Looking forward to a good game tonight. Atmosphere will be electric.

Wouldn't surprise me if they take a kick back. One of the great mysteries of my life is how a team can be so bad at covering a kick off for as long as i've been watching. Different players come and go, coaches change, but piss poor kick coverage remains a constant. It is truly fascinating to me.

I felt much more comfortable with ST last year than seasons past. I know ST gave up a couple of big plays but I found myself not holding my breath nearly as much in 2015. I think Coach Holt will get App's ST to the point of being a weapon instead of a liability.

We were pretty solid last year. Give our guys a chance to continue on last year's improvement.

If covering kickoffs is our biggest problem tonight then I'll take my chances.

I used to wish that we would just put kickoffs out of bounds- mostly back in FCS days. Used to hold my breath as well. Now as we have progressed with better athletes I simply want the ball kicked out of the end zone if possible.
