If he asks the players they'll obviously pick a rap song that both the students and players love but there would be too much complaints from the oldies that say stuff like "we're going away from our tradition by playing this rap music". I can guarantee you this would happen if DG asked players and students.

A comment like this leads me to believe you haven't even listened to Eric's music. Especially "The Outsiders". It isn't traditional county (what really in today's world) and definitely not 'Bro Country. If anything it is more Rock. Everyone is entitled to their own opinon. Personally, I think the buildup at the start of the song and lyrics fit.

We did use a hip hop song that sampled this for our intro music a few years back, though I'm not sure what it was. (This song is frequently sampled, but none of the ones I could find sound familiar.) It was probably my personal favorite intro that we've ever had.

I'm 64 and I can get behind the players and student choices cause they are the loudest and stay the longest. I'm a heavy metal guy and don't like rap but I'd yell with the young'uns! It's their time!

Two people hit the nail on the head earlier...1) Eric Church's "Welcome to the Rock" was unenthusiastic and muted (blame that on the production guy) - that's why it didn't stick. 2) Entrance/hype music is for the players and the students, not for us old fogies sitting in the stands.

Again, we are talking about music - NOT 4 spoken words. I don't care who says welcome to the rock. I know many are in love with Sean Connery, but I have always thought it should be a rotation with someone new each week - a la "Gentlemen start your engines" in NASCAR. Be even better if they could be live on the field instead of a video.
