I predicted before the hiring process started that the new Chancellor would be a female. IMOp. that was a major consideration. Diversity and all that stuff.

Re: Chancellor Gets a Timeout from me.
Having interacted with Sheri on a number of occasions, I can confirm that this is not the first time she has mispronounced Appalachian. She has corrected herself at times and just let it fly other times. While that might not be an issue for some, I believe it is an issue when there is a wrong and right way to say something. It'd be like the President or Head Coach of Notre Dame pronouncing the name of the school like they do in the Disney movie. It's just not correct.
While I don't want to just assume, I kind of get the feeling that Sheri has never really adjusted to the Appalachian way or conformed to the Appalachian culture. She still acts very much like an outsider and it shows/is beginning to show more and more. By the beginning of year three, I was hoping for much more. Fingers crossed more transpires, but at this rate, I don't see Sheri sticking around App much longer.

Sounds like she doesn't give a shit how she pronounces it. If she cared, she would not continue to say it incorrectly. Next thing you know, she'll be throwing a barbeque.

Rhetorical questions: I wonder could it be that the Appalachian community and administration she inherited has been so resistant to an "outsider" as it's Chancellor? Have we embraced her vision and given her all the support we can knowing that the woman is dealing with health and obviously personal issues? Do we understand the politics she is dealing with in Raleigh? Maybe the culture need a bit of a shake up? Just food for thought.

Re: Chancellor Gets a Timeout from me.
It's quite possible. None of us really know what's going on, unfortunately. Every administration does things very differently. Some are very open about their struggles and what they are dealing with. Others hold their cards very close to their chest. I think Appalachian's current administration falls into the latter.Rekdiver wrote:Just a little dig...spell Appalachian correctly next time!8993 wrote:Having interacted with Sheri on a number of occasions, I can confirm that this is not the first time she has mispronounced Appalachian. We seem to be getting away from folks with a tie to the university. Look at the athletic department. Not an opinion one way or the other just an observation.NewApp wrote:I don't doubt her qualifications as I don't know what they are, but couldn't we have found someone with actual ties to Appalachian, e.g. an alumnus, former instructor at ASU, a former administrator at ASU, etc.?Boone Goon wrote:This isn't the first time she's made this mistake. Re: Chancellor Gets a Timeout from me.
I think she has already evidenced that need by not being able, willing, or caring enough to pronounce our University's name correctly. She's been here three years or so now. Isn't that long enough to learn to pronounce it correctly? Heck one of my 10 year old's friend's sister who just moved to NC from Vermont already knows how and says it correctly..even her parents.Yosef10 wrote:Why does she need ties to ASU?NewApp wrote:What were her ties to ASU before she was hired?AppDawg wrote:Who is to say we didn't? Adjust to it and learn to like it. I have no inside info about how long Dr. Everts' tenure will last. It will very directly depend on her health, her family situation and her evals from the faculty, BOT and BOG. When she does decide to move on (or when it's decided for her); there's a 75 percent chance or better that her replacement will be another woman. Perhaps even a black or Hispanic woman. The ASU and UNC-BOG Diversity Offices are still open for business; and still mean business. It's a "PC" fact of life on every public university campus these days.NewApp wrote:I predicted before the hiring process started that the new Chancellor would be a female. Re: Chancellor Gets a Timeout from me.
If your info is from the change.org then I rest my case. So many alum who have no idea what's going on just see a post on FB and believe everything in it. That entire post/petition was full of so many lies it is embarrassing to me that so many of my fellow alumni fell for it. Since day 1 she has had to deal with so much crap and not been allowed to do her job. Every other day people were demanding her be with them because of their protest, I mean damn give the women some support and let her do her job then after time we can begin to judge her on the job.
Re: Chancellor Gets a Timeout from me.
My referencing the change.org was only to dispute your idea that the only people that want her gone are those that want to get rid of athletics.....My opinion of her comes from the 5 times I have been around her. First hand, not driven by social media...self-centered, egotistical. I will judge her from right now, she is our chancellor! I am sure when I hear her next week it will be more of the same ole rhetoric.

Re: RE: Re: Chancellor Gets a Timeout from me.
I hqve not read the change.org stuff. My opinion is developed based on my own interactions and those of current students I have personally spoke with. Many people are just not warming up to her. BTW I was actually excited that we were getting a female chancellor. I hope we get a female POTUS. So this is not even a factor for me. I understand the reasons why she was not available during some of the protests so no problem there either. She had a tough act to follow but that is just how it is.Appst97 wrote:Not according to the change.org petition, appears to be several athletic donors.
