Sherrill article on season tickets and YOSEF Club changes.

Unread post by HighlandsApp » Fri Jan 22, 2016 11:52 am

Great article. Thank you. Just bought 3 season tickets and upped my YOSEF contribution from $110 to $250. I hope to have 3 kids At AppState next fall, my high school senior just got word yesterday of acceptance to both AppState and UNCC. Praying for another Mountaineer.

Not sure whether we've seen the last of those discount offers. Would be interesting to know Gillin's thoughts on those (not that he'd ever say we're planning to offer them ahead of time.

My guess is App will once again have to decide between offering deep discounts or having a lot of empty seats for the Sun Belt portion of the schedule.

We need to try to rally both YOSEF membership and season ticket sales amongst readers here. Sherrill is spot on regarding those with dire interest who travel to bowl games should at a minimum be a $25 member and really what's a $100? We all can save that by just going out a few times less in a month :D

Good article, Thomas.

Regarding the 2,000 YOSEF members vs 4,500 season ticket holders. I agree both #'s are low. But I don't know that comparing Yosef members to season ticket holders is apples to apples or expecting those #'s to flip-flop is appropriate.

I would expect Yosef #'s to be lower as that 2,000 more than likely represents a household vs. and individual. For instance, my household counts as 1 Yosef member but as 4 season ticket holders.

Again, grim overall #'s no matter which way you slice it, but wanted to point that out.

Agreed, AppDawg. The other point I question - and Thomas isn't the first I've heard make it - is comparing the bowl attendance to season tickets. Making one trip to see a landmark game in program history doesn't equate to six trips per fall to Boone.

So agree with that comment. I haven't seen or heard anything about the signing day reception and the first week in February is almost here. Anyone heard any news/date?

I'm a Yosef Club member but haven't been to a home game since the beatdown of GA Southern in 2009. I don't do it for better tickets or parking. I do it for the pride I feel towards App State football. The benefit to me is knowing that I'm helping.

That monthly payment plan allowed me to contribute more than if I had to pay the same amount up front. They also allow you to pledge and enjoy the benefits so long as you pay by the end of the year. It is a very generous program that benefits today's student athletes.

The parking spot is a nice perk as well for season ticket holders considering most places near campus are charging around $20. Even the lots that only accepted donations are now charging.

If you give enough and can enjoy the hospitality room, the food and beverages provided help save on variable trip expenses.

I actually made that point in another thread but as I thought about it I realized it may not be valid. I am one Yosef club member but my family represented 4 tickets to the bowl game. No change is going to get three more members out of that group.

Hopefully my good example will rub off on my two future alumni but that is a few years away.

Do we consider ODU our peer?

In 2015 their season tickets were:

$186 for facility
$216 for endzone to 25 yard line seats
$236 for seats between the 25s

They sold over 14,000 season tickets last year.

UNCC?

$190 and you have to buy a seat license (per seat) - $250 min.

ECU?

$220 - $299, seating based upon Pirate Club priority points

Even with the increases App fans are getting a better deal than local G5 programs.

That is a great comparison. With our rich history and tradition, the argument that the Boone general population is too small in comparison should go out the window. If I remember correctly, Montana sells 12k to 14k season tickets and Mizzola is only 66k with Boone/Watauga County at 50k.

Season tickets sales of 8k is a must and very doable.

I'm another one who counts as one Yosef member and 3 season tickets.

One thing we did that made great sense to us was to give our son the gift of his own Yosef membership when he graduated. We give at level "x" for him each year. He gives whatever additional to be the level he wants. He also has his own season tickets that were "spun off" from our original group.

We're also making a small contribution to Yosef each year for our grandson. He joined Yosef the day after he was born. By the time he graduates, he'll have 21 consecutive years of giving. Even at a low level that kind of loyalty to the cause is worth something. If he doesn't go to App, his annual contributions will still have helped. His pledge is also promised for the next six years which gives him more points.

Yes, I realize that we could be higher up on the point scale if we gave all the money in our name. It's far more important to us to increase the number of individual donors to Yosef - especially alumni donors.

If your child is a student, please consider helping them join the Student Yosef Club. I know you may not have an extra dime lying around with a kid in college. If you can help, please do. If you can't, don't worry about it for a second.

Every Yosef member at every level is vital to the long-term success of our athletic program. Thanks to all of you who have given for years. Thanks, too, to those of you who are new members this year. You are all important and appreciated.

When I log into the Yosef Club on the appstatesports.com web site to check my point ranking, I see what I presume to be the total number of donors and that total reads 9,014. The Sherrill article states there are only 2,000 Yosef Club members? Am I missing something?

The 9,014 number is the total of all the folks who have ever been Yosef members.

There are approximately 2,000 active members. The 9,014 figure is from YC inception to now. 22% retention rate. That is what we need to improve upon.

In mid-December the total Yosef members all-time was at 8,846. That means we've added nearly 170 new members in one month! Now, if we can make sure all of last year's donors give in 2016 ...
