I think we should reserve judgment to see what kind of turnout this past fantastic season will yield for us (honestly, we're coming out of the dark ages as far as our recent football history is concerned). We certainly shouldn't be panicking or pumping the brakes on an "expansion". When I say expansion, I should clarify in that we don't need an expansion per se, but we should tear down all the existing seats and re-pour a cohesive horseshoe of stands that's open to the hill. 25-30k seats total is all we need plus the hill for overflow. Just my 2 cents, but that would go a long way in making Kidd Brewer an even more formidable venue and much more tv friendly.APPdiesel wrote:My biggest fear (and probably why I'm so adamantly against these changes) is look at the national trend of shrinking attendance numbers. And now with every single one of our games available to stream online, when demand is not at the point where we're selling out every game, I think it's dangerous to make attendance more difficult/expensive.
Look, if we're selling out every game, busting at the seams this makes COMPLETE sense. But when we're only putting 18,000 cheeks in seats for conference opponents a thousand miles away it just doesn't compute to me.
Prime example: Charlotte Motor Speedway -- that track was sold out for years. Then Humpy Wheeler built massive expansion, covered the cheap seats with advertising and said "you're either going to pay extra for the expensive new seats we just built, or watch it on tv" -- and guess what people did? They watch it on TV. And they're now tearing down the expensive new seats because nobody bought the tickets.
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Tickets sold =/= fans in attendance, but I do get your point. I understand that with growth comes change and change comes at a cost. I suppose it's a little contradictory to say I understand but do not support the changes.

Everything straightened out this morning. Made my Yosef Club pledge for 2016 and renewed my season tickets. All is right with the world.

Interesting discussion. I can tell you about my tickets, but Charlotte has a much different model. FWIW, we stuggle with many of the same questions, and add stadium expansion on top of that.BUTCH1991 wrote:I have no problem wit the requirements/levels that are being set. I sit on the 43 yard line about 11 rows up in what I believe would be sort of equivalent to your section 111, if it were on the West side of KBS. I paid $2500 each for FSLs for two seats. I have to give $1500 per year to maintain "ownership" to these seats, which goes through the 49er Club, so FSL owners are all members. As long as I keep giving these are my seats in perpetuity. I think I pay $180 x 2 for season tickets ($30 x 6), and $70 for a parking pass. Our season parking passes all cost the same, but the amount of your annual donation determines which lot you are in. This is the plan for seats between the 30s. There is a small section behind me that costs more, but I will skip that. Outside the 30s the FLSs were $1000 each, require a $250 annual donation, and season tickets and parking are the same.
It seems that we are more pricey than App is, but we just started paying for our stadium, and I expect KBS is long paid for. We need to expand soon since you are coming to Charlotte in 2018, but nobody has leaked what that really means yet. Stay tuned.

Definitely more pricey than App and FWIW we're still paying off our 50 million dollar pressbox. We should have at least announced expansion/serious renovation for our stadium by the time our series starts with you all.Nugget49 wrote:Interesting discussion. If you guys don't see some football success soon, do you think those prices are sustainable for your fan base? I find it hard to believe that you have many more fans willing to pay that kind of money for an expansion if nothing changes.

Re: 2016 Yosef Seating Stadium Layout
I agree that we need some success soon to keep it going, but many fans like me are financially locked into coming back every year, so as our stadium stands now, between FSL owners and students, we are always going to be close to sold out. Now keeping butts in the seats is another deal. We hope that we have solved our QB situation, and if so, then I think we have a shot at winning around half our games. That will be enough to build momentum. Well that, and non-noon games.Appftw wrote:Definitely more pricey than App and FWIW we're still paying off our 50 million dollar pressbox. Re: 2016 Yosef Seating Stadium Layout
The problem with this is they have introduced another variable into the equation. We'll never know how ticket sales/attendance would be this coming season without these changes. So now, if we do exactly what we did this past year in terms of sales, is that a win since we're getting more money from identical sales? Seems like it wouldn't be viewed that way.Appftw wrote: I think we should reserve judgment to see what kind of turnout this past fantastic season will yield for us (honestly, we're coming out of the dark ages as far as our recent football history is concerned).

It seems to me the best way to capitalize on our success this past year is to try and keep costs down for one more year. Focus on getting ticket sales up as high as possible, and get people hooked on the gameday experience. And of course keep winning. If tickets are hard to get, all the better. Then next year start upping the ante. Doing this now just makes it harder to grow attendance, and if we wind up having to back off next year it looks really bad.

Clearly, Doug Gillin has some kind of information (studies, surveys, book learnin etc) that makes it seem like now is the time to capitalize. I doubt he would make this move if there was a chance we could end up bankrupt or even worse, fanless like UNCC (sorry niners). Believe me tho, if that happens I'll be the first one to get out my pitchfork and run him out of Boone. I trust him for now.97grad wrote:The problem with this is they have introduced another variable into the equation. Re: 2016 Yosef Seating Stadium Layout
Thanks for the post. Hopefully our fans now realize what a bargin we have in Boone especially considering the amount of success the program has had over the years. I can't imagine the reaction if we had asked for seat licenses. I have to admit I'd be against those if it ever came up in Boone.Nugget49 wrote:Interesting discussion. Re: 2016 Yosef Seating Stadium Layout
Lest we get too distracted here, let me remind everyone that Yosef supports 20 varsity sports with over 450 athletes. If Yosef were fully funded, we'd need about $4,000,000. Your donations are about much more than where you sit for a football game.
I realize that football drives many donations - mine included. I also know that supporting a women's basketball program that had a 3.19 GPA last semester feels pretty darned good. Just trying to keep us all reminded of the broader goal of Yosef.
Thanks for helping make our entire athletic program as strong as it can be!

One item we haven't discussed in the inclusion of taxes in these prices. Previously the state did not tax game tickets, that started in 2015 I believe and the athletic department got caught holding that bag. So I blame the government

It's not the most friendly of systems and is something I know is on everyone's radar as we continue to grow and improve. Thankfully, we still have live bodies who answer the phone and are quite helpful.
Remember to congratulate Natalie on the birth of her precious baby boy as well. He's a real cutie!
Natalie took care of everything and I'm all set.
