I'm sure you'll find a job and stay there forever and will never consider a job that provides you and your family with a significant pay raise. My guess is that he left on good terms with the staff and there are no hard feelings.
Your guess indeed.

If I took a pay raise to work for a company that was less than a year from cleaning house, I'd think about my family and hold fast or look elsewhere.

Again, looking at roughly $150,000 more. Even if Doeren get fired next year, I can't see Ledford going somewhere where he will make laws money than he did at app. He could coach at State next year, then take a year off and still make the same amount of money. Don't see how we can have hard feelings towards him about that.
That being said, I REALLY do hate to see him go. Our o-line was going to be a ? As it was. If we can't get our run game established, it throws off our entire offensive game. Hope the new coach can hit the ground running and gels with the team well.

Look, if State's staff gets canned next year (which personally I think is unlikely), Ledford won't be out of work long. He might have to move to a new area, which can be tough. But he and his wife have one kid who isn't in school yet, so if you're going to move your family around without it causing a major disruption, he's got a couple years left to do it.

Also, we're all looking at it from the outside like Doeren getting fired is just inevitable. But obviously Ledford's not going there to fail. I'm sure he thinks he can go to Raleigh and help lift the program up. That's called being a competitor and believing in yourself.

I'm sorry to see the guy go, and I think there was a legit case for him to stay in Boone. But anyone who can't see why he'd take the State job is kidding themselves. The guy didn't want to be a G5 position coach/nominal co-OC for his whole career. He wanted to take a shot at a bigger program and a bigger salary, and he took this opportunity to do it without having to leave his home state.

I don't see any way this is a short-sighted move. He built a great OL and App State and will have P5 OL coach on his resume after this year. AND he's moving back to an area he lived in for a decade. I guess it's a roll of the dice but I'll be shocked if he ever has to take another job making less than what he made at App.

Not the kind of thing said when you leave on bad terms.

One other thing. Could not have happened at a worse time for us with our deep need for linemen in this class.

Guess there's no chance we can talk Elliott into coming back to coach the line?

He was retained by the new coach at USC. From what I understand he was the only one kept from Spurrier's former coaching staff. Elliot would have to take a giant pay cut to return to Boone as Oline coach.

All I got to say is paying a position coach $275,000 is bordering on the absurd. And this is at NC State! WTF is wrong with us?

Nothing against Ledford at all.

The HC turnover at NC State has to stop at some point. I wouldn't be so sure of an impending house cleaning. Can't blame Ledford for moving for what is a huge pay bump.

That's not out of line with NC State's peers. Look at the salaries of the new Va Tech staff. Check what many were making at Memphis, technically our peer.

http://www.roanoke.com/sports/columns_a ... e4b72.html

Other salaries of assistant coaches Fuente brought with from Memphis include $420,000 for special teams coordinator/tight ends coach James Shibest, $260,000 for receivers coach Holmon Wiggins and $260,000 for offensive line coach Vance Vice.
Cornelsen, Scott and Shibest have deals that go for two seasons. The rest of the assistant coaches have letters of appointment that run through June of 2017.
At Memphis, those coaches' salaries were as follows: Scott, $306,000; Shibest, $295,896; Cornelsen, $221,340; Wiggins, $212,237; and Vice, $212,237.
Two coaches from the Hokies' previous staff took pay cuts to stay on board. Defensive line coach Charley Wiles will make $260,000 in 2016 after making $308,990 last year. Defensive secondary coach Torrian Gray will make $260,000 after having a $275,600 salary last year.
Receivers-turned-running backs coach Zohn Burden got a raise from $185,500 to $200,000.

Can we pay our o line coach over twice what we pay our head coach. Coach Elliott is not coming back.

Unless the wheels completely fall off of the NC State football team next year, I would be shocked if Doren has anything less than 2-3 years left at State. Even if he squeaks 6-6 or 7-5 over the next couple. I don't think he will anyway. State has picked up a good OC and we all know how good Ledford is, Doren's building a winning staff around him. I hate to see Ledford go, but I cannot blame him. It's not often in any profession that someone comes along and offers to double your salary.

Imagine the other side of the coin for Ledford. Going to a P5 school with an established HC and a new OC. Imagine State comes out of it's shell and upsets Clemson and/or FSU next year (they've done both in recent history). Imagine the o-line is solid gives up the fewest sacks, and blocks down field for a pair of stud running backs just coming back from injury. The possible positives far outweigh the possible negatives.

Congratulations Coach. I hope you find every success in your future endeavors (unless, of course, you find yourself across the field from App State, then I hope your team gets it's ass kicked!).
“When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows.”
