Re: NC State Looking at Ledford?
I'm assuming (if true) pay raise is the big factor? Perhaps it's the homer in me saying this, but what's the real allure? The 4th or 5th best team in the tougher division of an average (at best) conference vs a team set up right now to compete for conference titles. Hoping that salary bump for position coaches we've all been hearing about it is significant enough to keep him. Hoping Satt can convince him to stick around. But hey, them's the breaks of being a small, successful program.

Can't be good for OL recruiting. Interesting he would turn down his alma mater for State.

Re: NC State Looking at Ledford?
Significant pay raise I'm sure, plus chance to move to P5. Atlantic isn't really the tougher division either - it was sub.-500 vs. the Coastal this year. People focus on Clemson/FSU, but it also includes Syracuse/BC/Wake.APPdiesel wrote:I'm assuming (if true) pay raise is the big factor? Re: NC State Looking at Ledford?
Looking at Football Scoop and Coaching Search, I'm not seeing anything about rumors for the Oline hire at State. Not saying the person on Pack Pride is incorrect on Ledford but obviously I'm hoping he's stays put.

Pack pride is an insiders board and mentioned that it should be Ledford as their next OL coach. This wouldn't be on football scoop yet..

I was focusing more on upward mobility within that division. NC State has little to no chance to knock off both Clemson and FSU as the power in that division. Is 3rd best in your division really attractive?EastHallApp wrote:Significant pay raise I'm sure, plus chance to move to P5. Re: NC State Looking at Ledford?
Good point. I imagine the plan would be to try to have a couple 9 or 10 win seasons and parlay that into a move to a better job.APPdiesel wrote:I was focusing more on upward mobility within that division. Of course, one could also say he might do better to spend another year or two at App and perhaps get a chance to go directly to that better P5 job if we keep winning. But, I understand that a mid-level P5 offer is going to be tough to pass up for our coaches. I mean we had a guy leave last year for SMU...

Well look at your own jobs. Are you there for the glory or are you there for the money. We will never be able to pay what the big boys pay so we will have a continual revolving door. The days of the money not being the most important thing for 99.9% of coaches is long gone. I really hope coach stays but like has been said there is a line waiting.

Yes, but Stepp is not an apples to apples comparison with him leaving for SMU. Stepp was hired and mentored by Chad Morris while at Clemson. I'm not aware of the connection if any between Doeren and Ledford in the past.EastHallApp wrote:Good point. Re: NC State Looking at Ledford?
If he goes we will find a suitable replacement. Show me one hire that Satt has made that lead to a worse or less experienced coach coming in...

Put me in the camp of "this kinda sucks but I'm confident we can find a suitable replacement" if this happens.

Re: NC State Looking at Ledford?
I would hate to lose him as a coach, but am more concerned with recruits following him to another school. Losing more O-line recruits at this point would be a really big blow to us, and as mentioned earlier, with the recruiting dead period ending we need all hands on deck.

Re: NC State Looking at Ledford?
Sure, but SMU is a down-in-the-dumps G5 (albeit one with lots of cash) that's halfway across the country, while State is a middle-of-the-road P5 in Ledford's home state.ASUGoose wrote:Yes, but Stepp is not an apples to apples comparison with him leaving for SMU. Re: NC State Looking at Ledford?
Agree, and this is where State could be a rough destination for us - many P5s might not be interested in our recruits, but they already seem to go after a lot of Sun Belt-level recruits. (Already grabbed one OL in this class that probably would have committed to us otherwise.)The Rock wrote:I would hate to lose him as a coach, but am more concerned with recruits following him to another school. Re: NC State Looking at Ledford?
Dave is an average, at best, coach. They fired TOB and Dave has been no better or worse. I would take a long hard look at loosing Brissett, basically their team, and the fact that he (Ledford) could very well be looking for another job next year. They have a completely unrealistic fan base. They think they should be in the SEC (really). If we have another good year, his options should be much, much better. At least he could find a gig with more stability.
