Just rolled in from Montgomery...
I'll tell ya what... just one hell of a college football game. My mind is still reeling from it all. My moments of doubt while in the stands and then all of that wiped from my brain as we exploded on the field in the 4th. Those young men, that coaching staff and our one APPSTANDING fanbase in the stands, just flat out WOW!
Random thoughts on 4 hours of sleep and a 6.5 hour drive home:
* Hoping a replay airs at some point. I'd like to see that last quarter one more time!
* I tell you what, I heard on more than one occasion, from vendors and locals, they were caught off guard with how many App State fans were in town and at the game.
* While I don't ever think of Montgomery as the "garden spot", I'd sure be OK with going back. Those folks did a great job, friendly, and very welcoming. Thanks very much.
* I know this is in another thread.. but.. OU Players.. classless and halftime. Karma.
* App purchased extra tickets from the OU allotment. OU didn't have the interest by their fanbase. Karma part 2.
* Tailgate lots, looks like we were at a home game in Boone! App flags, tents and fans for as far as the eye could see!
* Big salute to the ticket office folks and the ladies at will call at the stadium. You all did a great job!
Thanks team, coaches, staff and fans for one hell of a exclamation point on a great year!

Re: Just rolled in from Montgomery...
I have done a lot of cool thing and been to a bunch of cool places in my life... This weekend ranks up there with anything I have ever done! Would not have missed it for anything! Game was great, the host city was friendly, and all the fellow Apps I met were genuinely good people.
Our first game next year is in 256 days against Tennessee right? Let's start planning to paint rocky top black and yellow!

Re: Just rolled in from Montgomery...
I went to all three national championship games and this had the same feel for me, forever settling the question, at least for me, about playoffs v. Bowl games.
One complaint: they ran out of shirts and sweats too soon! I wanted to buy one of each but all they had left St fan Fest was 3xl. They said more would be sold in the stadium but even though I got in there about an hour and a half before the game, they were sold out also. They said they pretty much sold out at the hotel. I guess they didn't expect the crowd we came down there with. Hope our online store sells some. I ended up buying a 3xl t shirt that fits like a mumu but it'll be comfortable to wear around the house.

Re: Just rolled in from Montgomery...
I enjoyed the entire weekend. I didn't know anything about Montgomery. We found it easy to get in and out of downtown. The stadium was surrounded by plenty of parking. The game was good. The fans were really into the game. I probably won't be able to talk until next Saturday. It's great to be a Mountaineer!!

Re: Just rolled in from Montgomery...
I did the one day bus trip. Being able to park the bus right next to the stadium so we could come and go while walking the tailgate and fan fest areas was APPsolute tops. The play on the field, the fans, and the fantastic finish WOW! The only bowl game I have enjoyed more was the first one my wife went to with me 35 years ago.
Bring Your A Game!
Re: Just rolled in from Montgomery...
The Mountaineers left the field first at halftime. Ohio had to exit through the same exit we did. And, it was right past the BOD (to the far left of the scoreboard. So, just as the bunch of OU players got near the band, they, almost to a man, turned to the fans (and I was right there, 8th row) and gave us the arm pump that our guys do after a good play on D. It was clearly intended as a taunt and it was totally classless. The App fans responded with a vigorous BOO. And our team saw it all.strongwxnc wrote: Btw, what happened during the half? Karma indeed. It was a dumbass thing to do.

Re: Just rolled in from Montgomery...
Yeah that was classless and I am glad it has been mentioned. Doesn't bother me that we have a few fewer fans in Ohio now.
The tailgates were great, the stadium tired and in need of replacing. Locals were great. The Ohio Band was too and as I've said before we need to up our bands game. The BOD is good but nowhere near what we saw before during and halftime from Ohio.
Had as much fun as I ever did in Chatty and we are finally getting the respect we deserve from the national media.

Re: Just rolled in from Montgomery...
StrongWX AppAlumn1 has a good explanation of what played out. From my vantage point further up... they were also going "come on... come on.... " etc to the our fans... Man had that been one of my dad's teams doing that.. he, and his coaches, would have ripped them a new one right then and there... You just don't do that... PERIOD.. and at half time to boot! You just never want to give your competition motivation for coming out and digging down to exact revenge... so to speak... I'd imagine some of that was shared in that locker room. We had the last laugh... Didn't feel one bit bad for OU (hell my mom graduated from there) after that half time stunt.... It was just trashy.. and frankly.. I didn't expect that from a MAC team.

ESPN3 has the game and the trophy presentation. I have Apple TV and I assume you can stream on Roku as well.

Re: Just rolled in from Montgomery...
Awesome game! And I am so proud of App Nation for showing up in droves! It was awesome to be there and to see that much black and gold!
My only complaint is that they were clearly not ready for the size of the crowd. Running out of shirts before the game was disappointing, so was the beer concession... I missed almost the whole 2ND quarter standing in line. They only had one table selling beer upstairs and one downstars. Definitely not even close to enough.
But all in all it was a great experience. So glad I was able to make it, and even more glad that we pulled out the W!! What a hell of a season!

Re: Just rolled in from Montgomery...
Well, what an EVENT !!!!!!!! Everyone and I mean appsoloutely EVERYONE that we came in contact with in Montgomery was a class act (except for Ohio team). From the wait staff at restaurants to hotel clerks to cab drivers to gameday personnel at the game - everyone was great ! Had some really good times with lots of App folks at meals, sharing a cab, and at the game. We sat in Section P - Row 42 (about 3 or 4 rows from the top) and it was great - right on the 40 yard line . Section P was rockin !!!!!!! Can't say enough good things about southern hospitality in Montgomery. Love the idea of other bowl options but would return to Montgomery in a heartbeat. Our cab driver said that he loved all of the App fans but said "Y'all never sleep. I had App guys calling me at 4am asking for ride to Waffle House" .
Best game atmosphere I have been to including 2007 game in Chattanooga against the Blue Hens ! Thanks App Nation for making our alum base so much fun to be a part of .
