Re: Potential Capel replacements
I remember Lutz being mentioned before the Capel hire. Makes perfect sense. The guy has experience in the mid majors and recruiting in our area. I wonder if we can afford him? I would certainly hope Cobb is willing to fork over enough dough after his gamble with Capel turned into the biggest failure imaginable.

I am guessing you are also going to suggest we hire Mike Working as an assistant as well in football?Gonzo wrote:How about Buzz Peterson?

For once we agree, Jerry. I just don't think we should be discussing replacements for an ASU employee while he still has the job.

Now, why do you want to torment ASUTrnr81 like that? I'm sure he'd prefer you just use a voodoo doll, or something less painful.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:I am guessing you are also going to suggest we hire Mike Working as an assistant as well in football?Gonzo wrote:How about Buzz Peterson?

According to my inside source we have a big donor who is prepared to woo him away from wherever he is with an offer he can't refuse . . . but first we'll have to launch a national search committee to find himMcLeansvilleAppFan wrote:I am guessing you are also going to suggest we hire Mike Working as an assistant as well in football?Gonzo wrote:How about Buzz Peterson?

Re: Potential Capel replacements
This is a fan forum and we are firmly within our rights to discuss replacements. Capel has proven to be incompetent at his job and needs to be replaced. If he or his family happens to read this and gets offended, too bad because it's the truth.JCline0429 wrote:hapapp wrote:I guess one should never say never, but I find it hard to believe he will be renewed at season's end. As angry and frustrated as I am and have been about ASU's basketball situation (and I go all the way back to Bob Light, Jerry Steele and Press Maravich), I agree with hapapp that it isn't Kosher to be talking about Capel's burial--even if he does sort of have both feet on a banana peel.
At the same time, I'm like Jerry in that I'd read any and all speculation posted out of sheer curiosity. And just to show my human side, I'm already feeling a need to comment on at least one of the subjects of speculation. While I have nothing against Bobby Lutz personally, I think he'd be a very, very dark horse in a race for an empty men's basketball office at HCC.
What many of our younger men, women, boys and girls are probably not aware of is that Lutz has been passed over for the head basketball coaching position at ASU on at least two and perhaps three occasions in the last 25 years. I'm not certain how enthusiastic he'd be in answering his phone if his caller ID was showing "ASU Athletics."
He most definitely was a finalist for the position twice--and the nods went in other directions. There was a time that he harbored a lot of hurt feelings and animosity toward our Alma Mater. Whether a salary offer of $275,000 plus perks from Cobb would change his outlook is an unknown unless there have already been some feelers placed. Cobb knows he'll have to get out the big checkbook this time around. He knows what it would have taken to retain Peterson; and he's already paying Darcie Vincent well over $200,000 for coaching the ASU women. There will be no more bargain basement signings by Cobb as long as he's at ASU. He's got to hit a homerun with his next basketball hire; and he knows it.

Oh H$!! no! It will not make any difference to anyone, but I will quit ASU, The Liberry Tailgates, the YOSEF club, the whole dang thing if Mike Working is ever rehired in any capacity by ASU!McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:I am guessing you are also going to suggest we hire Mike Working as an assistant as well in football?Gonzo wrote:How about Buzz Peterson?

Re: Potential Capel replacements
Re Lutz, would we really pursue a member of a coaching staff that we just accused of tampering?
Also, for those offended at discussing potential replacements - Capel is not under contract beyond this season, correct? So technically, we DO have an opening. Of course, anyone who wants to argue that the next coach should be Jason Capel is welcome to do so.

I'd like to see this guy get an offer. Bryan Lentz.

You say you go all the way back to Jerry Steele. How long did he stay before he went back to High Point...two weeks?

I have never heard that Lutz interviewed at App, although it sounds reasonable. A few posts up someone said you would have a word or two to say when that name was mentioned. That were not kidding.asutrnr81 wrote:Oh H$!! no! Re: Potential Capel replacements
Pearl's NCAA show-cause ends in August 2014. It just means that he can't recruit if he's hired by someone. Also, it can be appealed by a school hiring him to be shortened.
Of course you have to look at what he did to get the show-cause. He lied about hosting a recruit at a backyard barbecue. Not exactly an act worthy of tar and feathers.
To me, he should be #1 on the list. He lives in Knoxville and wouldn't have to move far. He is a proven winner and great promoter. Fill the contract with incentives and let him do work.

Re: Potential Capel replacements
Bobby Lutz is a class act and he did not tamper with Donte. It would be a great hire.
Re: Potential Capel replacements
Charlie Cobb will hire the JV girls bball coach at Watauga High School for the job. Get rid of Cobb or keep him out of the process if a change is to be made...
