Given the schizophrenia of this team this year, there is no other logical position to take. We could run the table or we could exit in the first round and neither would be that much of a surprise.Seattleapp wrote:KgFish: I love fans like you. Way to hedge your bet. If you think we are gonna lose, then at least own that position.
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Re: Illinois State
App has as many good skill position players as anyone in the field. Get the ball to the playmakers, play solid defense, and don't give away points and this App team can play with anyone in the field. Satterfield should have a healthy offense and over 2 weeks to disect the ISU defense and figure out the best way to utilize what appears to be a speed advantage and overcome the size advantage.

Not hedging bets. As inconsistent as this team has been all year anything is possible. As is the norm with FCS football it is hard to tell how good teams are. Not enough exposure to get a good feel for them.Seattleapp wrote:KgFish: I love fans like you. "We may very well win, but I wouldn't be surprised with a quick first round exit."

Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, but I disagree. Your logic is circular. The competition wasn't good because we beat them and the wins are somehow discounted because the competition wasn't good. The fact is that, top to bottom, the conference was playing well this year. Even Western is on the rise even though they have a ways to go. GSU is back in form. Wofford is solid. Chattanooga is as good as many of the playoff teams, and I frankly think Samford could say the same thing. The Citadel was up and down, but their ups were very high and they are very athletic.
I really think there is a ton of talent on this team. A LOT of it is very young and therefore we definitely struggle with consistency. We might lose early, but believe we're capable of hanging with any team in the playoffs if we stop shooting ourselves in the foot and execute.

It does make you wonder when someone goes to that length to minimize the team's accomplishments this season. According to you, every game we won was either a result of luck or the other team sucked (but we still didn't beat them right). I am pleased with this team. After the Citadel game alot of people gave up on them, but this young and banged up team did not quit. Proud of these guys. If you would have offered to bet me early this season that Apps would finish 8-3 and make the playoffs, I would have taken that bet.

When did pointing out the obvious - like statistics - become minimizing the team's accomplishments? Someone said "I liked most of what I saw down the stretch". I merely pointed out how fortunate we were by presenting facts that clearly showed how porous the defense was the last half of the season. and by making the silly assertion we were lucky to beat Samford with a circus catch for a last second TD. I suppose Citadel beating up on Furman is no indication of how "good" the Paladins are. What I neglected to address was the witty comment "too often our fan base forgets we get EVERYONE's best shot!" I find it interesting to think some actually believe ASU is the only one that gets the full attention of opposing teams.AppinATL wrote:It does make you wonder when someone goes to that length to minimize the team's accomplishments this season. Re: Illinois State
I'd contend that Sean Price making a great catch in the end zone was not luck. He's set every freshman record in ASU history, is only a few yards from Randy Moss' all-time FCS freshman record and has a Payton finalist throwing to him. Price and Jackson have been doing it all season. Having good players is not luck.Kgfish wrote:When did pointing out the obvious - like statistics - become minimizing the team's accomplishments? I do not know about anyone else, but I have never been to a an ASU game I did not think we were going to win. Rose colored glasses or just a loyal fan.
I say we beat Ill. St. and I do not care if it is by 1 or 101....win and move own....we are talking about 18-22 year olds......how many of you know what your child is going to do tomorrow....I do not.....so just pull for the damn APPS or quit finding or making excuses.
I say we win! ok...there!
Right now we are one of 20 teams with a chance to win a National Championship....after Saturday we will be one of 16.....I like our odds....we are in the tourney!

It was an exceptional catch, but it is foolish to "contend" there is not an element of luck in every play like that. Out of 10 balls like that how many do you think he comes down with in bounds? You must not have noticed my tag line or you would know I give the young man credit for the play.asumike83 wrote:I'd contend that Sean Price making a great catch in the end zone was not luck. Hate to interrupt the message board squabbling, BUT ....
The title of this here thread is: ILLINOIS STATE.
Anyone know anything at all about them? Mr. C posted on AGS that they are a bubble team that should not have made it. They've also lost to two questionable teams in the MVC. Are they a bunch of big, slow, white boys ... or what?

Re: Illinois State
I know some say they were a bubble team, but they had NDSU beat most of the game, but gave out of gas in the 4th. They did finish 3rd in their conference. They lost two questionable games, but we lost to El Cid. We will have our hands full next weekend. Their QB is one of the best in the country. I'm sure he will pass for 350+ yards (Elon's QB). We will have to stop their front 4 period.AppAlum1 wrote:News flash.

He has been going up and getting jump balls over smaller defeners all season and made a very similar catch in the corner of the end zone in traffic against Western. If Jamal put another accurate pass like that on him, I'd like his chances to make a play again.Kgfish wrote:It was an exceptional catch, but it is foolish to "contend" there is not an element of luck in every play like that. If winning a game because your best receiver makes a big play with the game on the line is a lucky win, I'll take another lucky win next Saturday.
Re: Illinois State
Word from Boone, The can trow the ball well. We throw it better. Their OL is huge and play well together. Our OL is young and still coming together. Defensively we should have an advantage due to speed, but they are crafty runners of the football.
They played with NDSU....until the end of the game. Silly loses hurt them.
After talking with the person I did....they sound a lot like us!

They are a very good team. Matt Brown, their QB, is a late round NFL prospect. Big kid, about 6-3, 225 with a real strong arm. Very efficient in the red zone as well.asutrnr81 wrote:Word from Boone, The can trow the ball well. We throw it better. Their OL is huge and play well together. Overall, they are not as explosive as us offensively but they will have a size advantage up front. We do have more team speed but we've seen that neutralized with a power running game the past few years.
They are a rough match-up, it should be a very physical game. I see them as a team in a similar mold as Furman but with significantly more talent.
There should be points on the board on both sides, I think it could come down to who can make some stops in the second half. The good news for us is that they have been terrible on special teams so hopefully we won't see the game changed in a big return.
I like that Satterfield has extra time to prepare for them. They are real strong in the front seven but if we can get our athletes in space, we should be able to move the ball pretty well. I think we will use the short routes to keep them honest before we start looking for Price on the deep routes.

(1) ain't nobody good, so we have a good chance as any to win - if the team is fired up and don't come out like we did vs Citadel. (2) kill the 3rd down bell - nothing special 'cause most stadiums ring it and it has been a signal for us that other team is gonna get a first down. (3) on Labor Day, most were saying we'll take 7-4 with this team. Well, our team done better.
