Re: Myrtle beach bowl according to twitter
Thank you for saying this. Seeing so many App fans complaining all over Twitter is a bit unappealing. Half of the people on here were saying we wouldn’t, and some said we shouldn’t be playing at all this season, much less in a bowl game. I for one am grateful, and have learned many times to not take anyone for granted.booneboy92 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 11:03 amTrue that... and let’s never forget that we weren’t a worthy bowl opponent for Toledo either!BeauFoster wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 10:31 amYou play the games you’re scheduled to play. So where does Jerry Moore's allegiance stand for this game?

Once the NY6 and conference championships were off the table, the only thing left to play for this season is the active bowl winning streak. And a game v North Texas in MB gives our guys a really good chance at continuing amazing and unprecedented streak. Much better in fact than playing a quality opponent.

Re: Myrtle beach bowl according to twitter
I don't believe we "complainers" mean any disrespect toward North Texas. Most of us all have been very proud of our conference's achievements the past few years, and the 3rd best team in the Sunbelt, who lost all three games to ranked opponents, being matched up with the 8th best team in CUSA, with a losing record, is disappointing and very questionable.booneboy92 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 11:03 amTrue that... and let’s never forget that we weren’t a worthy bowl opponent for Toledo either!BeauFoster wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 10:31 amYou play the games you’re scheduled to play. Re: Myrtle beach bowl according to twitter
I am also very surprised NT got a bowl with that record. I wanted an easier opponent for this year w our challenges, but not one with a losing record. Could we loose, yes, but if the coaches get us ready and we don't listen to everyone saying how much we should win by, then we hopefully can get the W.

I just keep telling myself this is 2020 and its not a normal year. I too was disappointed at first knowledge of our opponent. Given that they are the best offensive team in CUSA means that they can certainly provide a challenge for our defense. Any team that moves the ball as they do is dangerous. That should create some interest if nothing else does. Given that they're the worst defense in CUSA may mean this a very active game on both sides of the ball.

This...all of this! Next we'll hear our fans complaining to the commish about injuries.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 10:31 amPeople complaining about the opponent sound a little like Mr Chadwell...

Not sure what our fans were expecting with a 3rd place finish in the conference. It should come as no surprise that a 3rd, or hell even a 2nd place, SBC team gets with regards to a bowl opponent in non-Covid times. I get NT has a losing record and in normal years wouldn't be a bowl participant but 2020 is anything but a normal year. The team needs to step up and finish off the season strong to keep the undefeated bowl record in tact.
Even though our boys didn't have the season we all wanted or maybe even expected, when you take a step back and see the conference as a whole, the team is in a good position if they take advantage of the opportunity going into 2021. Last I checked, the SBC is 2nd in the G race, ahead of the MWC and behind the AAC. From a conference standpoint, I'm not sure we could ask for any more at this time. I know folks want better bowl tie-ins but until they are re-negotiated, this is where we are for better or worse.
The conference's trajectory is impressive since App, GS and CCU joined, going from 5th to 2nd. Coastal has taken advantage this year of the road paved by the likes of Troy, UL and App over the previous few seasons. As much as we want App to be the NY6 rep, the SBC just needs someone to break that glass ceiling. I could do without Chadwell's whiney ass complaining but CCU has the best shot at being the one to break the barrier this year and help bring additional, much needed, dollars to SBC programs so I hope the Chants do what hasn't been done before in our league. Hopefully it will pay dividends for the next SBC program that gets in their position.

Not only is NT 8th in C-USA, they didn’t even play UAB, Marshal or FAU.

App (and to a lesser extent the Stink) paved the groundwork for making this conference not be the laughing stock of the FBS. We were the first SB team in a lot of ways, Coastal is just picking up where we left off. Bigger picture both Coastal AND Louisiana deserve our backing because one of them will be carrying the Sun Belt banner into a marquee event this year. And it's actually good to see two other teams besides App getting accolades because it shows that this conference has more than one program that's doing something and we're not ACC lite where it's one team and everyone else.NashvilleNeer wrote: ↑Sun Dec 13, 2020 11:29 pmyup. which is why we should not be rooting for coastal. they have already surpassed us in the eyes of the media in one year.
And again, we had our chance to beat Coastal and get back into the media spotlight and back into the rankings and we blew it for whatever reason. If you want the spotlight you have to get it back.

Doesn't really bother me at all. It will be great to get those extra practices in and hopefully get some of the younger players more reps than usual in those practices. On top of that, we are going BOWLING for a 6th straight year!! I couldn't be more proud! A chance at 9 wins and a chance for six straight bowl victories.

I only have one issue with what you are saying. I don't think App has "left off" just yet. I appreciate Coastal and UL pushing the rock for a little while so we could take a lunch break, but the Apps will be back.hotrod2001 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 2:47 pmApp (and to a lesser extent the Stink) paved the groundwork for making this conference not be the laughing stock of the FBS. Re: Myrtle beach bowl according to twitter
We've earned it. We were given the big fat beach ball set up on the tee for us this season, no P5, and 2 teams we hadn't lost to, seniors everywhere. Just win and we are ranked 10-12th and a darling, with our history, like Coastal has become without any good history. As bad as I hate it, we picked a bad year to lose 3 games, which each weren't out of the realm to win the day we played. Hope we are headed to the upside of the learning curve for the first year head coach that has been here longer than 1 year. Year 2 is going to give us a lot more insight, no reps to potentially next year's QB is concerning. I'm open for a different OC next year or as soon as after the bowl game, I'm getting too old to wait until his 3rd-4th season to figure out we shouldn't have hired a reject from a bad run at ECU - cut that tie now before it costs us more. Special teams, glad we found someone or decided it a better strategy to kickoff into the end zone, nice to see a K/O returned for a TD, that sparked us from losing #4. Dale Jones did a great job with the D this year after me cursing and doubting at Marshall, Our D did enough for us to win every game we played this season, sorry play calling with no rhyme or rhythm or common sense at times helped us lose or struggle when we shouldn't have. Here's to hoping those that can, get this train headed back in the right direction.

Not sure which negative comments are worse. The ones for NT herein or some others about our team on other threads in the cabin. Both coaches need to join YC and would have bulletin board material..
We play who we are scheduled. Let's go 1-0 for this year's bowl!! Go App. St.!!

That was my point with my tongue firmly in cheek. UNT and App have never played but there is a connection with Jerry Moore having his first head coaching job at North Texas and of course his last head coaching job at App.

Re: Myrtle beach bowl according to twitter
If the NT coach has to come on a message board and read a post from many that never played college football in order to motivate his team then that coach has some serious motivation problems to start with.Tbatchelor1977 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 5:12 pmNot sure which negative comments are worse. I stand by my statement that I think App should at least play a team with a winning record. And if NT finds themselves in a bowl, which they have, then they should be matched with a team that is in the 6 win or .500 win record team. The potential for a better game for both teams would be heightened in my view. If the coach at NT takes offense to that then so be it. If he is worried about what I have to say on a message board then he needs to consider approaching his job a bit differently.
There are a lot of variables this year in bowl placement so I am not suggesting we deserved anything. But there are nuances with feelings not as strong that can be expressed and done so without slapping NT in the face with disrespect. If many C-USA teams back out of bowl games then I may feel differently in hindsight. I would think a CUSA team with an 8-3 record or the equal percentage would also not want to play a 4-5 MAC or SB team.
App will play the game and hopefully come home with a W. NT has a great O based on some of their fan postings but their D is very suspect. This might make for an interesting game and at the end of the day the game is played on the field and not in the stats.

I think we've done enough over the last few years that we shouldn't excited about playing the 8th or 9th place team in Conference USA. I expect us to win and hopefully play our best game of the year, but there's nothing else to say. How did we not get WKU or anyone else from the top of the conference?moonshine wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 12:38 pmThis...all of this!
