Re: Where’s the Info?
If I was a coach, I wouldn't be choosing to do videos, press conferences, interviews, etc. on my own. If someone from the media asked? Sure. But why create chances for you to put your foot in your own mouth? You want him to talk about specific players, but what if he only talks about one RB or one LB? Now the others who are working just as hard feel shorted and enter the portal.
I agree with what others have said, the blame isn't on the coach/coaching staff. It's because of the decimation of local news.

He just said this was the start of his Senior year, so wonder what will happen after this year assuming he graduates.

Re: Where’s the Info?
The blame is on the coach/coaching staff. We used to get daily camp videos and photos under different coaches. We used to get postpractice interviews. We used to get mic'd up with players and coaches. We used to get written and video position previews. All from the sports information team from within the athletic department. The instagram has posted 2 videos since fall camp opened. I guarantee you the mandate for an information clamp down comes from a single person.
It can also be true that not having local media and losing Ethan Joyce hurt, but that isnt new. What is new is that we hired a head coach who doesnt want the athletic department staffers to do any promotion of the team, for whatever reason.

Re: Where’s the Info?
I wonder if you're talking about the Bud Light sponsorship, being the "official beer of AppState." Will this push out all non-InBev beers from KBS like the Pepsi sponsorship pushed out all the Coca-Cola products?

Re: Where’s the Info?
100% agree that some feel that way but good results will get them engaged regardless what Loggains does. If we start 5-1 or 6-0 those fans will join in because they won't want to feel left behind. Bandwagon fans will come out to see a winner. Like the old saying. "Victory has a thousand fathers, but defeat is an orphan".BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2026 8:04 pmWell, it does matter for fan engagement whether 12-0 or 0-12. Fandom is an emotional state of being. Some to many fans want to be engaged well before the first game is played. They want to feel like part of program.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2026 7:38 pmLike you just said though he would not give any real info. It is definitely a mental thing with fans. I hear people listening to videos talking about App from people who know less about our team than we do but people just want to see info whether it is good or not. Season will be here very soon and none of it will matter. If Loggains goes 10-2 this year I don't think anyone will really care. I really hope he proves a lot of people wrong and we have a good season. He sounds happy with the team from what I have heard so we will find out soon.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2026 7:27 pmTo appease folks for fall camp, Once a week, DLo could have a student reporter ask the obligatory questions each week. What were the goals this week? Anyone standing out in practice?
DLo could then provide the typical responses that have a multitude of verbiage while saying nothing of substance at all... Post on various social media sites...And folks would be happy..
It's a mental thing with fans.. makes them feel like they are getting information and more attached to the program. Takes 5 minutes or less.
He should consider doing it.
As stated, 5 minutes or less....use many words but say really nothing unless he feels the desire to do so.
For me, not a big deal, however, I know some do want to hear from the HC during fall practice.

Re: Where’s the Info?
Good comments from all. The idea that “we” are talking about the ‘27 schedule when we are a couple of weeks before the start of this season, is crazy to me. It is because there is no info about this season’s team. Let me push back on the idea that “if this team goes 5-1 all will be forgotten “….. not for me. I have a hard time believing that if Gillin or DLo wanted the info out… it would be out. Would it be nice to have a beat writer, sure it would. In the last couple days, I have watched about 5 videos of 3-5 minutes long from JMU. Interviewing the coordinators taking questions and answering them. I believe these are produced within the athletic department. Just frustrating.

Does he have a way to play them?
My wife’s mom “gifted” us their family videos and we have no vcr. We’re paying hundreds of dollars to have them converted

I was going to reply to a specific comment, but I'll put this for the whole site:
Who cares? Why does this matter?

Re: Where’s the Info?
I think a few episodes are on the YouTube. And I also believe you need to promote your athletic program anyway you can. Doing a canned show puts you in total control of the narrative.

Re: Where’s the Info?
Even though I’ve always been a football first fan, I’m becoming more interested in our basketball program because Dustin Kerns from day 1 has recognized the need to connect with fans, promote the program and promote the players. And, in a football first school, his job is inherently harder than DLo.
DLo may want to be a head football coach, but he doesn’t embrace the role. Pariod. End of story.

Re: Where’s the Info?
Comparing apples to oranges here. DLo has pressure to win in a football first school, just like every football coach before him. His job is not to promote the players and sell tickets. His job is to win. Period. Winning sells.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2026 4:55 pmEven though I’ve always been a football first fan, I’m becoming more interested in our basketball program because Dustin Kerns from day 1 has recognized the need to connect with fans, promote the program and promote the players. Kerns does not have nearly the same pressure to win because winning basketball does not sell in our fanbase. Kerns’ job is to increase attendance and performance while winning along the way.

Re: Where’s the Info?
Wouldn't a lot of this lack of info fall on our Strategic Communications Dept? I know they have the occasional podcast and stuff, but seems like they would be the ones producing some of this type of stuff, but I could be completely wrong!
