That USM defense isn’t close to what we show at Marshall last year. They are a bowl team, but I don’t think they finish in the top two of the west.

Casual fans showing up for the experience and mystique of Wrigley field, but not rabid enough to expect winning at all times. Same could be said for many App fans and Kidd Brewer stadium. Just watch the kids on Miller Hill and what they are doing and you will get my point. We had that winning mindset at one point. Now it seems many are okay with winning the attendance battle instead of winning every ball game. This isn't directed at you personally. Your post just made me think of it.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 5:43 amFirst conference game and stadium barely half full. We can’t turn it over 3 times in the red zone and expect to win.
Looking at the crowd last night it’s hard to believe that So Miss is outspending us in NIL. Is this really the case? I’d love to see where we fall in comparison to our conference mates.

Oh! Here’s another fun coaching record to look at:
Year 1: 5-5
Year 2: 5-5
Year 3: 6-7
Year 4: 11-2
What coach is that?? OLD PAL ELI DRINKWITZ! That’s right, after going 12-1 at App, he was perfectly mediocre for three years. The next three years he has had Mizzou consistently in the top 25

Dude has been waiting…WAITING for that 1st loss. Go away dude. Pathetic.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 7:38 amSo Miss Charles Huff is a really nice good coach! Marshall did the right thing and fire that AD for letting him leave for another school in the SBC. He has flipped the culture down in Hattiesburg.
The Charlotte win was Fool's Gold, they are terrible, and Appy fans and players it seems got full of themselves. Lindenwood staggered the Moutaineers and So Miss may have just knocked them out for 2025.
Coastal is a sure win, but the rest are 50/50 or no chance at winning at all. 5 wins max is my prediction for 2025. Billy Napier maybe available soon! Taylor Lamb needs to be the next coach once CDL leaves for the NFL or SEC or HS.
Gillin needs to be shown the door along with Reeder and a few others - these are like the end of the Cobb days. It needs a major remodel. One former HC in the department recently told me, 'App has a math problem in terms of finances'.

Performance really has nothing to do with college realignment. Location is a negative but in the new age of television right brand is more important than location.Pikapp79 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 13, 2025 10:02 pmPoor performance and location working against higher paying conference affiliation.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Sat Sep 13, 2025 9:56 pmWe need to get into a higher paying tv conference. Sun belt is still very low paying and we bring eyeballs and brand recognition.
If we got the $7MM/year that ecu does it would go a long way

Re: So Miss discussion
There are some pretty bad hot takes on the thread. That's why I don't post during games. It was a hard game to watch to be sure and no, I can't imagine anyone thinks this is "OK" so I wish folks would stop with the straw arguments. That said, I'm not ready to give up just yet. Execution was the issue (again) but the problems this week were NOT the same ones we saw last week.
I hope Swann and Kohl get healthy. We have 2 weeks. I also hope Keith can get healthy and take some burden off of Dubinion.
The only real plus I see from yesterday was that DL is doing an excellent job of scheming on offense and we have been successful moving the ball. That doesn't show up because of the red zone struggles, but just imagine if every series had been 2 runs up the middle and a predictable pass play.
My biggest concern is the OL. It seemed they got dominated, especially when Gillon came in, which is when we needed them to step up. Yes, Gillon was over his head but he did settle down a little as he got some reps. I do think Wiles looked pretty good once he came in so in hind sight, I wish he had played more. I have to assume Gillon has out-performed him in practice and the coaches saw an up side.
The D also struggled and that is new this season. Yes, the competition was much more legit, but specifically tackling was poor. I look forward to seeing that addressed because I don't think that is going to fly with DJ. If the Offense had finished on their drives, it wouldn't have been nearly as noticeable. When things went off the rails for App, Southern Miss got psyched. That's what momentum is all about. We gave this one to them, so let's fix it.
Hang in there Apps! Lots of work to do and football to be played.

QB #5 made too many bad decisions to win. As far as revenue sharing, I know we lost out on several basketball players this year because we didn’t have the money to compete but football? I don’t know.

I would wager App is in the top half if not top quartile in spending on football.

The "feel"may never return. With the transfer portal etc..... not sure how much culture we have anymore with the players and App State.

App State Football peaked out on College Game Day Saturday in 2022. Nothing left to obtain.
A lot of good loyal older fans, younger generation is spoiled, but the spirit of App State has been lost or broken, be a long time before it returns. It's become too corporate and has lost its roots.

Re: So Miss discussion
How many players on the roster have been at App for 3 or more seasons? I think what you will see (aside from 15 or so usual powers) is an annual shift of the next two tiers. Some will be good, some ok and some bad. I also believe there is a reason why certain players who transfer don’t look very good especially quarterbacks. A QB who was number 3 at a P4 was #3 for a reason. I agree with the take that what a guy does in the red zone is usually the difference. Getting outplayed is one thing but shitting the bed and giving games away is another. Better execution and getting points on those drives last night and we win..and nobody is talking about money.

Twas a rough game last night....take out the turnovers in the red zone and probably had a win...get it cleaned up and we can still turn around and at least have a bowl season.....so many new parts that need to gel this season

The further you climb that flagpole, the more people see your arse. Right now only the ants have that privilege. Us old guys lived through this before. This is a figuring out the landscape for Coach in this pick-up world. I’ve taken a deep breath and reset expectations.

Re: So Miss discussion
I won't argue with you on the finances issue because I know Gillin is taking a huge risk but you can't go silent like you have and then pounce on the first loss. People still wanted to give Clark time in year 5 and this is just the 3rd game in year 1 for Loggains. It took Drink a few years to get Missouri going in this era so I think we need to give Loggains at least 3 years before we start calling for jobs of people.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 7:38 amSo Miss Charles Huff is a really nice good coach! Re: So Miss discussion
We were projected to be roughly a 6-6 team this season with all the turmoil and player turnover. Obviously we all hoped we’d be much better but this just looks exactly like a 6-6 team to me.
Flashes of what could be mixed in with absolute ineptitude (particularly in the red zone).
It’s a long season. Let’s look for progress coming out of the bye and hope we can put together a strong performance against Boise.

Re: So Miss discussion
The best players in any sport develop the skill of forgetting what happened during the last play so they can focus on the next one. My concern right now is whether many of these kids are able to do that. I realize some of them are young in their college football careers, but not their football careers. Again, it's a skill that's developed.
These players look like they're overthinking what they're doing out there and/or dwelling on past mistakes. Is this because they're not able to forget the last play and move forward? Or are the stakes higher because many of these kids see themselves as auditioning for P4's and each mistake lessens the change they'll get offers/NIL from bigger programs? One wonders.

There is no more emotional or mental development anymore. It’s all just physical and strength development. Tom Brady said it best this past week. I’ll find the clip and repost.Bootsy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 9:02 amThe best players in any sport develop the skill of forgetting what happened during the last play so they can focus on the next one.
