Re: Coach Watts to Duke
Hate to lose Coach Watts. He’s been a very important piece of our FBS run. Knowing the relationship he has with Coach Clark, I would assume we weren’t blindsided by this one. Going to hurt losing his recruiting prowess. Any ideas or thoughts on his replacement?

I’m certain they coordinated the timing etc. They are as mentioned, very close.

He isn’t the RC. That job has morphed into an entire department that is overseen by Thomas Guerry and his staff.

Re: Coach Watts to Duke
To your original question, though he’s no longer the coordinator, I think his recruiting and role as a position coach will be missed equally. I imagine we will hire outside the App family to replace him unless we try to find a spot for someone like Taylor Lamb.

Taylor is now out of reach for us as a position coach.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Fri Dec 29, 2023 10:12 amTo your original question, though he’s no longer the coordinator, I think his recruiting and role as a position coach will be missed equally. Yeah, I wouldn't think Taylor would come back just to be a position coach when he is already a more lucrative position coach at a P5.
I know he loved played at App, but money talks... Especially when he's that young!
The only TE with App ties that is still coaching that I can think of is Cardwell and that boat has long sailed too.

Hope he’s happy with the change!
While I believe App will pick the best they can, I don’t know much about position coaches. Who/what type of background would be realistically considered? Is it going to be a peer school we try to pull from or is this a case of pulling from FCS?

I’m not sure that this is true. Just speculation on my part but I think that he could be a candidate along with Mario Acitelli.704App wrote: ↑Fri Dec 29, 2023 10:31 amYeah, I wouldn't think Taylor would come back just to be a position coach when he is already a more lucrative position coach at a P5.

Re: Coach Watts to Duke
I thought of Acitelli too since he's the run game coordinator and o line coach at W&M. Historically, our TE are more an extension of the o line.
Didn't realize he coached TEs at Elon and W&M before his current position.
Curious to see how Cardwell could be in the cards unless he just doesn't like Cincy. No way we can compete with that salary.
