Also, what’s the word in the Arkansas LB transfer? He certainly looks the part, and has some SEC playing experience.

GO APPS!!
He is a BEAST!
Dale said today that Redshirt Freshman Arnholt and Arkansas Transfer Parker are going to battle it out. High praise for both. Went on to say Arnholt is the smartest freshman he has ever coached. Good to see as #52 Jackson leaves big shoes to fill.

I heard Coach say today that Kyle Arnholt might be the smartest and the quickest learner he has even coached - he and the ARK transfer are the front-runners for Demarco position.

Kyle looked versatile on HS film and going to be interested to see how he looks at our level. To be honest, if the recruits we are getting are as good as they look on film and as good as described then he should be one of many. Some have said our coaches are getting the best talent possible for a top tier G5 over the last 3 cycles and thus it should show up for sure. It will be interesting to see who actually ends up starting at spots like ILB, DE, C, S, CB, and WR where we lost multiple players.

The interviews today were outstanding, certainly worth the time.

I heard them say he is a beast but it is interesting that he left Arkansas. According to magazines they have 2 starting LBs and so he would have been their top backup. Some NFL people have him on their list of prospects at App. It shows how good SEC teams are that they have backups who are legit NFL prospects.
Everyone has their reasons to transfer. In this instance, from what I gathered is that there was a change in defensive scheme at Arkansas that wasn’t suited to his game.

Makes sense in the fact they shifted to just 2 LBs and he would be 3rd on the list. Smart move to go to a winner where he will start rather than be a backup.

It certainly helped that John Chavis is at Arkansas. I’m sure that Jones’ relationship there had some influence.

Players lean on people they know and trust so that often makes the difference. Glad to have him for sure.

That’s true. It’s also true that it’s not always a good thing. :D

It helps that App has put LB's in the NFL recently.

Maybe not historically, but at least in the last 10 years or so it seems our successful NFL players have all been defense (with one or two exceptions).

2011: DB, G, LB
2012: WR
2013: P, DB
2016: DE
2018: G
2020: RB, LB
2021: DB
2022: LB

I would say of those positions drafted, definitely defensive guys have been more likely to see the field on a regular basis.

We have had Dino Hackett, Dexter Coakley, Rico Mack, Justin Seaverns, Joe DiBernardo, Jeremy Kimbrough, DJ Smith, and many more either get drafted or sign a contract after college of players more than 10 years ago. We have a long history of good LBs.

That is true. Have had some good UDFAs like Cadet and Lamm make it as well but definitely seen a little more success on defense.

Just glanced at the roster. If it's current and accurate I count 15 guys listed at defensive linemen with 4 being freshmen. What does our projected depth chart look like there? I know we don't have the huge guys and we rely on speed but aside from Earle who is clogging the middle?

With Dingle Prince moving out to DE, my guess is that NT is being manned by Earle, Chris Washington, and KaRon White.

Read the write up on FB earlier (I guess link to Appstatesports) about the scrimmage. Aside from some of the studs we hear about it was great seeing positive reviews about guys many of us have not really heard much of- a DB transfer, a few offensive linemen and a couple of linebackers. A few mentioned are younger guys.

Are we running a spread offense this year? I think we are going to be slinging it around the field again. I thought Clark would work us back to a run tight end heavy set. I am hearing a spread offense.

Same offense with a few wrinkles.

Figured this is as good a place as any to ask but we have the running back from Wallace Rose Hill- Kanye Roberts who put up ridiculous numbers especially his senior year. I don't recall much discussed about him and I would think he's a red shirt this year...but did we potentially get a stud with this guy? I recall watching him in the state championship game last year and he's the real deal. I know we have great backs but what do you guys hear or think about him?
