Re: Unc to sec?
Wouldn't be surprising in the least especially if UNC can dangle a B1G may be interested in us carrot....

Re: Unc to sec?
I’m not sure if this is accurate. ESPN can void the contract, but it doesn’t affect the GOR contract among ACC members. Meaning that even if ESPN voids the deal, the ACC gets any media deal revenue from these schools until 2036. I think the only way that the GOR becomes void is if the ACC disbanded. I don’t see that happening.

Re: Unc to sec?
Maryland got out of its Grant of Rights deal with the ACC for millions less than they thought.
Anyone out of the ordinary who doesn't normally report on realignment stuff should be questioned. But you never know which "dickfart69" on Twitter or a message obard actually has info from their golfing group that happens to includes a trustee or other high-ranking school officer that started talking after that extra Crown and Diet Coke.

The current ACC GOR was implemented in 2016 with the founding of the ACC Network. Maryland left in 2014.T-Dog wrote: ↑Thu Jul 07, 2022 12:47 pmMaryland got out of its Grant of Rights deal with the ACC for millions less than they thought.

The GOR was strengthened after Maryland left. We all know that contracts are made to be broken and with the amount of money being thrown around now, nothing is impossible, but breaking this one is going to cost nine figures.

I read yesterday where they considered jumping to the SEC in the 2010 time frame according to Holden Thorpe

Re: Unc to sec?
We asked heisman voter and first coast news in Jacksonville anchor Brent Beaird on our show last week “what’s to stop Clemson from leaving the ACC if the SEC really wants them?” His reply was “nothing”. He said if the SEC really wants an ACC member or two the SEC will absolutely be rich enough to cover their GOR for them.

Re: Unc to sec?
I would agree with his answer if the question is solely asked about Clemson. But multiply that figure by 4 if they want all four.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Thu Jul 07, 2022 1:13 pmWe asked heisman voter and first coast brews in handover anchor Brent Beaird on our show last week “what’s to stop Clemson from leaving the ACC if the SEC really wants them?” His reply was “nothing”. Re: Unc to sec?
I know Greensboro is pushing to keep the ACC and has even offered to rename the Greensboro coliseum the ACC coliseum if the headquarters remains in Greensboro... But I'm thinking that the North Carolina legislature ought to put the brakes on passing this bill to give the ACC 15 million dollars to keep the headquarters here cuz that headquarters may not be worth much during the 15-year duration

Re: Unc to sec?
I agree with you...Why the SEC wants UNC & Virginia is strange...NCSU & VT seem like better options for football.
I get that UNC is a national brand....but they just don't seem like a fit in the SEC

Re: Unc to sec?
Actually I see them leaving but not only them. I see Clemson and Fla State going to SEC. I see unc, Virginia, and Duke going to Big 10 maybe Miami also. Not sure NCSU or VT will be invited to either one. Maybe NCSU for TV market but not feeling it. Not sure anyone else in ACC will get the invite. I think the ACC is in a little trouble.kornegaylw wrote: ↑Thu Jul 07, 2022 3:23 pmI agree with you...Why the SEC wants UNC & Virginia is strange...NCSU & VT seem like better options for football.

Re: Unc to sec?
NCSU and their alum have lots of cash to burn and a billion+ endowment with quality, not the best, but quality facilities. I do see the SEC taking ONE nc school. I don't think they will take more than one. I could see them taking ONE Virginia school. So we will just see how this shakes.bcoach wrote: ↑Thu Jul 07, 2022 4:20 pmActually I see them leaving but not only them. I see Clemson and Fla State going to SEC. Re: Unc to sec?
Hard to believe some of the ACC basketball rivalries could come to an end. No more Duke, UNC tournament games. Is ESPN really going to be for this ?

Exactly...they're set when it comes to football. Any schools added will either be to enhance other sports or to enter another large area/market...or perhaps both.

Re: Unc to sec?
Really torn on this. On one hand I’d love to see Tobacco Road and the ACC discontinued. On the other hand, unc making an extra $50MM is going to help them cheat to new levels and make their Walmart fans even more insufferable.
Is there any scenario where the Acc is disbanded and unc is left out in the cold?

Re: Unc to sec?
From the perspective of Olympic Sports, the Big makes more sense for Carolina. They offer more of the sports that they excel.
