Not sure. My kids went to school in Florida. But there is also a consortium of states that offer reciprocity for out of state students. NC is not one of them.pop5app wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 12:15 pmI guess ,then, that as usual North Carolina doesn’t offer anything as good or as beneficial as this!

To add to this, it is very difficult for JUCO kids to come to App. App’s transfer process/requirements make it very hard to get players here. A lot of sunbelt schools get JUCO players from the breeding grounds of southeastern JUCO baseball.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 12:18 pmNot sure. My kids went to school in Florida. Re: 2022 Baseball Mega Thread
I've read/heard that even four year transfers from some known academic schools have lost credits in transferring.

What is it that causes the difficulty?Appstate35 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 1:44 pmTo add to this, it is very difficult for JUCO kids to come to App. App’s transfer process/requirements make it very hard to get players here. Re: 2022 Baseball Mega Thread
I certainly concede, now that the numbers are out there that App State doesn't invest in baseball at nearly a high enough level. Essentially investing 1/3 of the money the top of our conference puts in ain't gonna do it. It would be really interesting to see how that money is spent (or where it isn't spent). The pressure needs to be put on DG to invest more in baseball. We're in a good league now, we need to act like it. So on that point 94 I absolutely agree with you.
And if the JUCO transfer situation is as difficult as it is, some improvements need to be made there to make that process easier.
I still however refuse to believe things like climate and altitude are insurmountable. If that were the case we'd start slow every year and come on strong the second half of the season...which we don't.

Re: 2022 Baseball Mega Thread
I’m think it has to do with credits and app not accepting classes. I could be wrong but that’s the only thing I could see it beingpop5app wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 3:08 pmWhat is it that causes the difficulty?Appstate35 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 1:44 pmTo add to this, it is very difficult for JUCO kids to come to App. App’s transfer process/requirements make it very hard to get players here. Heck of an effort. Stranded a man on 2nd and two of our best hitters up. Tough one to lose but a good game. Did anyone in the Winston area get to go?

Re: 2022 Baseball Mega Thread
The difficulty in JuCo's going to App is across all sports. App doesn't give too many or any academic waivers for JuCos who don't meet certain requirements. The only other Sun Belt school (not sure about the new members) who is similar is ULM, and it's known how much they struggle in many sports.
I think another issue in recent years for App was the elimination of the out-of-state waiver. Basically, before the recession a decade ago, UNC System schools could have a student athlete from out of state and only have to pay in-state rates for their scholarship. That went away when the N.C. General Assembly was slashing budgets in 2010. That added around $1 million to the scholarship bill.
Efforts have tried to remove the athletics exemption from the 2010 bill, but that hasn't passed.

The law just passed making them so. It is going to save us somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.5 million.pop5app wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 6:35 amThanks T-dog! Honestly, I'm conflicted. Are we supposed to feel good about this? Played well but came up short is kinda getting old.

Re: 2022 Baseball Mega Thread
It tells me that the baseball team might be a couple of key players away from being an above average team as compared to a team which is a long, long way from being competitive -

For the last decade-plus, no. They cost the same as every other student and the Athletics Department had to foot that bill. That's partially the reason why you had so many in-state student athletes on Olympic sports teams.

Re: 2022 Baseball Mega Thread
I looked around for it last night and couldn't find such a bill. A bill in 2019 passed the state House with overwhelming support, but never saw the light of a state Senate committee. There was another bill filed in February 2021 that never was heard. Was it part of an ombud bill or the state budget?
