Of the total of 12 signees, 7 were from VA, 3 were from NJ, 1 was from MD and 1 was from NC.

Va is the southern most state that has much in the way of high school FH. These numbers are not surprising.

My school has field hockey as do some other privates and a few public high schools in the state, but it is not a large sport in our state. For budget reasons I wish we could find some more NC FH players to sign.

Guilford Co public schools have had FH for as long as I can remember. Check out NWGHS. I know they have a strong program with great student athletes. I think it is more the coach's choice than the lack of FH in NC.

I know some of the Guilford County schools have field hockey but not many, not that I kept track of every sport offered at every GCS school. I think it may be Grimsley, Page and NWGHS. That is three to recruit from but GCS has 14 traditional high schools with some level of athletic support, so it is not a large percentage. But more than zero. Forsyth appears to have 3 public school teams and Bishop McGuiness which is private but plays NCHSAA.

The problem with field hockey in North Carolina is it as yet to be sanction by the NC High School Athletic Association. There are several high schools in the Triad area that have field hockey. There are five public schools in Forsyth County, East Forsyth, Reynolds, Mount Tabor, West Forsyth and Reagan. Chapel Hill and Charlotte area have several schools. However, that doesn’t cover much of the state. Watauga high school has a team, but has to travel a good distance to play teams. Women’s lacrosse is sanction by the NC High School Athletic Association. Most girls that play field hockey also play lacrosse. That sport seems to be growing the most in the state.

Certainly a chicken and egg sort of thing with FH.
