Our Mountaineers (6-3-3) are coming off of an impressive 5-0 waxing of Texas State last Sunday. Tonite, they take on the USA Jaguars, the reigning Sun Belt Champs and another team on a long winning run.
The Jags are 3-0 in Sun Belt Conference play – 9-2-1 overall – for the first time in school history after three straight one-goal road wins, with the last two coming in double overtime. Tonight's game will be their first at home since a 1-1 tie with Marquette on Sept. 17.
USA is the overwhelming class of the Sun Belt. They have 9 European imports--all of whom are at least part-time starters. They seem to have it all--skills, quickness, raw speed, stamina and confidence. They have a strong defense and one of the best offensive attacks in collegiate soccer. They will pound the App goal with shots all night.
This is a big match. Tough way to start a road trip for the Apps; but if they could sneak away with a win or tie--the SBC race will get very interesting. With a win, the Apps will leave Mobile with the SBC lead.
