The ASU men's soccer team (0-1) will re-start their 2015 season Wednesday night against the ETSU Bucs (1-1-1) and attempt to work out the rust after going 12 days without a match. The Apps began the season on August 28 with a 3-2 loss on the road at North Florida. They haven't played since. A scheduled game at Jacksonville was cancelled due to drenching rains in the Florida peninsula from Tropical Stork Erika on August 30. Florida Governor Rick Scott declared the entire Sunshine State to be under a state of emergency.
In the August 28 game against UNF, the Apps fell behind 3-0 before storming back with two goals to make it close. They had multiple opportunities to even the score but just could not put the ball in the net before the clock ran out. For whatever reason, the Apps have a recent history of struggles with teams loaded with international import players. UNF fielded 10 players hailing from Europe, Central and South America.
In the Wednesday night match, the Apps will put their 7 win-1 loss all time record against the Bucs on the line. The Bucs will counter with a team loaded with 11 international players hailing from Europe and South America. Arghhhhhhhhhhh!
It'll be interesting to see how the Apps respond to Season Two of Sun Belt play. There have been rumblings about the team's dissatisfaction with head coach Matt Nelson. Whether these whispers are of major concern is apparently yet to be determined.
On a brighter note, this year's class of recruits is one of the better ASU "hauls" in recent memory. At least three of the freshmen are four-star, Top 150 recruits as ranked by IMG Academy, College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer. Midfielder Caleb Moore of Rock Hill (SC) Northwestern is ranked as the #65 recruit in the entire nation. Midfielder Raheem Summersall of Durham, NC by way of the Caribbean Island of St. Kitts and Nevis, was a member of the USA U-17 National Team. Impressive.

With the addition of Coastal Carolina to the Sun Belt, ASU will have to step up recruiting efforts to be competitive. CCU has a stout and well-respected men's soccer program. The Chants will be, as they say, "hard to guard." They recruit literally all over the world.

This starts a string of 4 matches in 7 days. This is after having a week off. Nelson spoke earlier about wanting to do a year-round schedule with one game a week or every two weeks (like the European pro leagues) so they don't have to cram games in. I'd be perfectly fine with that, having the College Cup in spring instead of December.
