NASHVILLE, Tenn.- The Belmont University men's soccer team (1-3-0) returns home to E.S. Rose Park for the first time since its season-opening 2-0 victory over crosstown foe Lipscomb, Friday, Aug. 28, as it hosts Appalachian State and Campbell as part of The Belmont Invitational this weekend.
Belmont will host Appalachian State Friday, Sept. 11 for a 6:30 p.m. The Bruins look to get back to their winning ways as they return from a three-match road stint that included a pair of true road matches at Buffalo and Evansville as well as a neutral site matchup with Drake. Belmont has not been outmatched in any matchup this season as it has consistently battled its respective opponent and has turned in a strong 90 minutes of play on each occasion.
"We are looking forward to being back home in front of our great fans. Hopefully they will be out in droves again as we compete against two strong opponents," said Head Coach Bryan Green.
Taking a look at the competition, the Appalachian St. Mountaineers have opened the season 1-1, with a loss vs. North Florida in a neutral site contest and a victory at ETSU. In their most recent outing at ETSU on Wednesday Sept. 9, the Mountaineers defeated ETSU 2-1 in a chippy contest that featured seven yellow cards issued. Appalachian St. scored a goal in each half and was able to fend off ETSU despite allowing a goal in the 66th minute of action. Junior Stephen Chapman has already scored three goals this season including the game-winning tally over ETSU.
Belmont and Appalachian State have met just three times over the years with the Mountaineers holding a 2-0-1 record against the Bruins. The last meeting between the squads came in 2013 at the Lipscomb Invitational and the result was a 1-1 draw.
The Belmont Invitational also features a Friday afternoon matchup with Lipscomb and Campbell taking the pitch for a 3:30 p.m. showdown as well as a Sunday afternoon contest between Appalachian State and Lipscomb at Noon.
