Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
The ladies did to Towson what a good team does to a not so good team. A six goal win is a blowout in FH. 3-1 over Georgetown isn't a blowout but a solid win, Georgetown is traditionally pretty bad but has improved a little recently.
Coach Dinsmore is really doing a nice job with the team. They should be in the hunt for another conference title, just need to get over the tournament bid hump. But with UMass now in the league (they were a national semifinalist last year), winning the MAC will be tougher this year.
As a father of both a '26 (who sadly for me isn't App bound) and a '28 player, I currently follow field hockey rercuiting closely. So I will say Coach Dinsmore has been killing it on the recruiting trail with the entirty of both upcoming 26 and 27 classes appearing on the Max Field Hockey Top 100 class of 26 and class of 27 lists. My '28 daughter just told me her friend and one of the top '27 goalie prospects in the nation just committed to App today. The future is bright on the mountain for field hockey.

I always appreciate your input about FH. Adding UMass will be a big improvement for MAC FH and hopefully we can stay in the hunt. I hope we can keep this coach for a long time as she has impressed me.AppfaninCAALand wrote: ↑Sun Aug 31, 2025 6:18 pmThe ladies did to Towson what a good team does to a not so good team. Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
I wish we could get the quality up to where we could put the hockey games on ESPN+ with the ACC, A10, and some other MAC games. It would be a great recruiting tool. My girls watch 4 or 5 games a weekend on ESPN+.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 8:20 amI always appreciate your input about FH. As for Coach Dinsmore sticking around, I know when my oldest was going through recruiting, her club coach didn't seem to think she would be around long. But Im not sure. FH isnt football or basketball, there is no money in it. Running a clean program with players graduating with high GPAs is more important than wins, and the difference in pay spread between the HC position at App and UNC is in the 1000s not millions. Personal reasons are more likely to take her away from the program (family concerns, going home, etc) than on-field success.
As for the sport itself, I would not have guessed it before my oldest picked up a stick in 4th grade, but I love it. We are about to go watch the defending national champions Northwestern play at VCU here in an hour or so. One thing I like about field hockey is how small its world is. I couldn't go watch the defending football champion play at the local midmajor - and get in free to boot.

By quality, do you mean quality of play or quality of production?
I thought the issue was not having production facilities there or at the soccer field that was the problem. I will be curious if softball is on ESPN+ this coming year.

Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
I am sorry for the confusion. I definately was talking about A/V production quality. The audio is fine, the kid in the SID who calls the games is clueless of the rules but is also passionate and know how to pronounce the girls' names, so that is good enough. The problem I see is with the video. They put the camera above the new pressbox for a few YT games last year, but the view angle was weird and way too high. The normal spot behind the bleechers has good sight angles except that the bleechers block the field. Those are the issue I see.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 12:22 pmBy quality, do you mean quality of play or quality of production?

But I have seen and heard all kinds of strange stuff on ESPN+ field hockey broadcasts. I once heard a play by play girl unknowingly complain over the air during a blank black screen that "None of the f'ing cameras we check-out from the A/V department ever f'ing work!".

Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
ESPN admitted a lot of the ESPN+ broadcasts would be students using this as a learning experience. That language is not going to bother me, but I suggest they not put that on their resume either.AppfaninCAALand wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 5:48 pm"None of the f'ing cameras we check-out from the A/V department ever f'ing work!".
