Dr. Jan Watson, who started App's first women's sport, field hockey, will have field named for her.

We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Dr. Watson was App State Field Hockey's first head coach after founding the program. She went on to win 157 games, the most in program history. She helped found the program four years before the advent of Title IX, making App State Field Hockey the first varsity women's sports program in North Carolina at what is now a Division I school.hapapp wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 4:56 amDr. Jan Watson, who started App's first women's sport, field hockey, will have field named for her.

How is it that Appalachian is so far ahead of the curve in this, as well as other things such as police call boxes on campus and condoms in their residence halls.

Not sure I see the connection between a women's sports pioneer and condoms in residence halls, but Kudos to Appstate for honoring this worthy coach.AppWyo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 9:33 amDr. Watson was App State Field Hockey's first head coach after founding the program. Re: FH Founder to be Honored
I see your point, what I was trying to say is Appalachian is very proactive to solve problems, while other schools are reactive to problems and are often forced to make changes. Like the blue light phones on campus, Appalachian had those years before other schools had them. https://911cellular.com/blog/blue-light-phonesAppDub wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 10:10 amNot sure I see the connection between a women's sports pioneer and condoms in residence halls, but Kudos to Appstate for honoring this worthy coach.AppWyo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 9:33 amDr. Watson was App State Field Hockey's first head coach after founding the program.
