I don’t understand much about wrestling, but I do know these guys are beasts. They give their all for App State and are killing the competition. Congrats to the team and coaches!

GO APPS!!

Ranking top 20 in NCAA wrestling is a big deal. College wrestling is tough.

For an example. This was 30 years ago...my senior season in high school I lost 4 matches. 3 of those losses ended up 1,2 and 4th in the state in the 4a division. Our local rival was a 3a school and i got beat by a kid that ended up 2nd in the state that year in 3a. I kid you not all 4 of those that beat me went to App to wrestle. (I didn't even think about trying to wrestle in college) I would have been at best 5th string out of those guys. None of the 4 above that tried to wrestle at App sniffed the mat as a starter. You have to be a bad man to start at App...an even badder man to win against some of these other schools. An even badder man to dominate our conference like some of our wrestlers are doing.

All that to say..APP HAS SOMETHING SPECIAL GOING ON IN WRESTLING!!!!!!

It was a great atmosphere in Varsity for the Campbell match. Our Football Team was in the second level cheering on the Mountaineers. Campbell had a nice contingent and I'm pretty sure their Football Team bussed up as well to support their team. We dominated 125 lbs through 174 lbs. winning six out of seven matches and cruised to the win.

Is having 3 matches in one day the norm? Any particular reason that happened. They did schedule the hard match first so as not to be too tired for the later matches, which were easy victories.

Gives the opportunity to wrestle backups

I guess the coach figured the other two matches could be won by our backups without any concern. Given the score and if backups were used then the assumption was clearly correct.

Wrong assumption, same lineup in all three matches. They were all 3 conference matches.
My reference was how I conducted Quads with my high school team, all non- conference matches.

It looks like a common thing. Campbell hosted Presbyterian and Davidson on the same day. Presbyterian hosted VMI and The Citadel the same day, Davidson hosted VMI and Presbyterian the same day.

Facing back to back opponents is commonplace, but wrestling three straight dual opponents without them facing each other is weird. I mean, they were the right two opponents post-Campbell (didn't lose a single match), but man it wasn't that exciting since App's wrestlers weren't 100%. It's still impressive to win 20 dual matches in a span of 3.5 hours.

I'd be surprised if a tripleheader happened again.

The spectator portion of the event was the Campbell match. Not much drama after that, but our squad went out and did what needed to be done.

5 shutouts on the year, they gave up 3 points to Duke and Campbell was the only conference opponent to score more than 6 points this year.

The next big hurdle is for our kids to perform well come SoCon tournament time. We beat Campbell last year as well but lost to them in the tournament. Campbell actually has more kids ranked than App does so it is possible that they could win the tournament again this year. We need our studs to wrestle well and get bonus points come tournament time, and some young guys to step up and perform well. We have the kids, no reason we shouldn't win the SoCon tournament as well.
