Unread post by firemoose » Wed May 01, 2013 5:00 pm

That brings the total class for 2013 to 10. I know this isn't a thread about Liberty or UNCC and that wrestling isn't an Olympic sport anymore but I thought someone out there might want to know something about an App State team. Instead of listing them here I'm just pasting and linking the GoASU web site story. I've been keeping up with the twitter posts from the kids committing but this story is the best way to let everyone know.

BOONE, N.C. – With two already signed after the early signee period, Appalachian State University wrestling head coach JohnMark Bentley added eight more to the 2013 recruiting class, highlighted by four NHSCA All-Americans, three Junior National Freestyle All-Americans and a combined 18 state championships.

In addition to Nick Kee and Adrian Soto-Perez who signed in November, the recruiting classes will total 10 for the 2013-14 season.

"I am extremely excited about the competitiveness and mentality of this class," Bentley said. "I believe we have some guys that will really help us in some of our weight class needs."

Nick Hall - Alabaster, Ala. – Thompson HS – proj. 157

Hall recorded an impressive 190-15 record at Thompson High School, where he won three-straight state championships at 170 pounds. Hall was a main contributor to the team’s three-straight team state championships. Hall became the first wrestler in Thompson history to sign a National Letter of Intent.

Kacee Hutchinson – Candler, N.C. – Enka HS – proj. 197

Under head coach Mark Harris, Hutchinson was a three-time all-state wrestler while tallying two state championships at 195 pounds. During all four seasons, Hutchinson was named to the all-region and all-conference teams. The Candler native earned NHSCA All-American status three times and is a member of Strong and Courageous where he was a two-time Southeast Freestyle champion.

Collin Johnson – Gastonia, N.C. – North Gaston HS – proj. 184/197

Johnson captured the 3A state championship at 182 pounds during his senior season after earning back-to-back regional championships. The Gastonia native finished his high school career with a 169-31 record and became he all-time career wins leader at North Gaston. Johnson set a school-record 101 pins during his four seasons.

Marcus Johnson – Shillington, Pa. – Governor Mifflin HS – proj. 184

Johnson is coming off a fourth place finish at the PIAA state tournament, but captured a District 3-AAA championship at 195 pounds. Johnson closed out his career as a member of the District 3 all-star team.

Alex Kruklinski – St. Petersburg, Fla. – Northside Christian – proj. 184/197

Born in Moscow, Kruklinski captured a state championship at 195 pounds during his senior season. Before coming to Florida, Kruklinski competed in New Jersey where he became the Bergen Country Champion.

Colby Langford – Hendersonville, N.C. – North Henderson HS – proj. 125

During Langford’s four seasons, the Hendersonville native put together a 177-18 record and was named to the all-conference team after three seasons. Langford won a state championship after his sophomore and junior season and was named MVP of the team.
